Hi, My name is Steve, I'm a former high school teacher living in Northern Maine. I'm 1 week away from finishing my training at NMCC and take my road test May 7th. It should go well as long as I don't become nervous, which has happened.
Just wanted to say hi, and thanks for all of the posts, it appears that truckers look out for each other more than any other industry I've worked in. Does anyone have any info on Roel Transport? So far they are on my top five list of companies to apply with. Thanks again.

From what I've learned about Roehl, they seem to be strong on home time and weak on the pay scale. Check the 'fleets' link on their web site to make sure that you're in their hiring area and what options are available to you.

I checked out their web page, and like all the other companies I've looked at, they are the best, pay the most, provide the most miles and have you home when ever you like. If I saw it right they are .28 to .39 cpm depending on time with the company and experience driving. It's not easy to get to the truth. Thanks for your response.

    You're welcome.

Here's a link to a long thread by a driver that made the decision to go Roehl.

From what I have seen while lurking here for over a month, I have found little to turn me away from Roehl.

I have my own path, thanks to a college buddy of mine who has experience at another company, but Roehl is pretty close to my second choice based off of reputation. My only advice is to remember that if everything was as golden as a recruiter says, they wouldn't need drivers.

If you are going to school for you cdl, the more hours the better, and it opens up more companies to you...

I started out with Schneider on a dedicated account, driving as a team - great learning experience and pay was good too... started at $.32/mile and ended up making about $700-780 (after tax) depending what runs we had. I was home almost every day or every other day for about 30mins to and hour. And home every weekend, friday afternoon till sunday night.

Point of me saying all that, you learn quicker in a team and pay is usually higher.

    Hope this helps a bit...

Thanks for the thread from Perpetual, it certainly sounded good. I've been told to wait until I have my cdl to apply anywhere. Does anyone have an opinion on this.

Well, as it's a requirement of the job, yeah you'll need to wait until you have your license. :)
