Nope they haven't , trust me on that
We've had daf trucks with pacaar engines here for many years, daf stopped makin decent engines at the end of the eighties, I promise you 400,000 miles is their operational life, here in Ireland their reputation is ruined so badly you wouldn't believe, I haven't seen a new one in two years and I live next to a dealership! Alot of the reason is the terrible backup they have here but also like myself these engines have broke so many small operators, a few years back they sold alot of trucks here, they sold them saying they were simple to maintain and not complicated so you could fix them yourself! Such was the claim! Aswell as claims about simplicity =long life etc etc, but in reality they are not long life , not reliable , not simple and if u fixed them yourself or in my case a different dealer you had no warranty. I know for a fact from a friend who wouldn't listen to my warnings the new mx is even worse, I see these things everyday, friends that own them and operators I know that own them as well owning 2 myself so please do yourselves a massive favour, if you value your livelihood stick to engines you know and forget the salesmans stories and promises. On the other hand I've traditionally bought scania, as a contrast some of my ex trucks are still around locally with over 2m miles on the clock and are still going strong and as a warrant contrast if one of my scanias were broken down more than 24hours scania will provide a replacement, do I feel bitter about my treatment from daf/pacaar?? Hell yeah!
Opinions on PACCAR engines please

Got 23,000 trouble free miles on mine. Nice quiet engine and very easy to service. Gross 80,000lbs haulin fuel pulls just fine. Average 5.5mpg lots of mixed driving between short city loads and highway with hills everywhere. Its the 430hp 1550/1750tq engine with 3.55's and a 10spd o/d. Was kinda put off at first on the hp rating but the thing pulls awesome. However a 13spd would make it #### near perfect. Its just getting broken in so we'll see what the future brings.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
Cummins...hmmm, N14 yes , ISM yes, ISX...nah...too many blocks going out.
-
so at what point does the block go out? cuz my isx has 1.1 mill miles.

fortycalglock Thanks this.

Oohh that's nasty! But don't think those Paccar engines are an alternative, if you guys are getting 1.1 million out of them that's 1 million more than you'll get out of a Paccar , the first Paccar engine I had to rebuild had only 138,000 miles on it, no joke!

Well I've only had mine a few weeks so can't speak about reliability yet but as for fuel mileage its great averaging mid to high 7's with ease. Power is a little hard to compare I have 3.36 rears and you need a bit of a run at bigger hills. I've only driven trucks with 3.55's or 3.70's before this and never a 13 speed. Although I do think it's a bit weaker than the ISX and on par if not better then a Detroit 60 series (never driven a DD15 I did drive the DD13 and it was a turd). Engine brakes are horrid, not sure why but they are the weakest I have ever seen you have to really gear down and get the RPM's up to make it worth a darn and big grades forget it unless you are way down in the gears. Other then that time will tell I guess.

It's a European engine so engine brakes were never developed here cos of retarders so they won't be as good as a Jake , retarders are on most trucks here! They are not too bad on fuel either
-
######! That'll take more than a tub of rad weld!!

Kujo how many miles on your truck? How often does it regen ? What happens to your mileage when you gross 80,000 ? Hope you don't feel
like I was picking on you on that other thread . Tks
