Well, thank you for such a thoughtful addition to the thread ironpony. How about a helpful recomendation for those who don't qualify for that? Like oh say.... Every driver that drives for one of the major carriers? Try for a suggestion that lacks completely unnecessary degredation this time.![]()

Real appliances work much better than the 12V junk sold in truckstops. You'll note the avitar for future reference, eh?
-
So much better! Glad that little jolt to your collar got your attention.

I still don't think much of carriers that demand you cook yourself in the summer, freeze yourself in the winter, expect you to survive on truckstop food and whatever you can jam in one of those pathetic coolers - all in the name of idle reduction, while being too cheap to provide for decent driver comfort during rest breaks. Nothing like a fatigued trucker barely able to stay awake because he/she can't get proper rest, headed for type II diabetes because of weight problems/inadequate diet.Traveler51 Thanks this.

Well stated IP! If I'm not mistaken, you drive for national company that does provide APUs and allows inverters, even in company trucks. I've often appreciated your posts on the "other" company's threads. Thanks!

Sadly 2 weeks ago we had to put our lunchbox cooker to rest. It lived with us for 7 years and lead a full and useful life. We felt very fortunate to find another to fill the void.
the crockpot is being just as useful and we love her just as much as her new brother lunchbox.
I will very much agree with Ironpony that the rest of that stuff is crap. Get a decent inverter and use regular household appliances -
That's what I said: Get an inverter and use regular household applicances.

I loved your pictures..
All of them .
I went to your other albums too and you sure took some great pics.
But back to this thread..
A couple of years ago I was living out of my truck due to some unfortunate circumstances..
It had a 1500 Watt invertor and a microwave thank goodness. It is unbelievable what you can cook in a microwave. I like my steaks bar-b-qued and I would never have thought I could enjoy them (nuked) but #### they sure tasted good. Bacon and eggs ? Them too. It's amazing what you can do with a microwave. Carry the basics like salt and pepper or your spices of choice etc. and it's amazing what you can come up with.

We have a huge inverter in our truck so we can cook almost anything....BUT if I had to have a small inverter then I would have the crock pot, that Burton oven thing, at least a cooler oh and a propane grill. You can do so much with those 4 things and go to a spice store if ya can and get LOTS of different spices. Spices make up the food...you can turn the most bland food into something great just by playing around with spices and herbs.

The 1500W inverter can handle the draw from a microwave, but... if you are running an APU, I'd suggest idling your engine while the microwave is operating. It puts a huge draw on the batteries and APU altenator.NavigatorWife and Traveler51 Thank this.
