Is the sim significantly different than actual driving? I would think that it's different enough that it could be problematic, even for a proficient, experienced, 'real life' driver...

I watched a guy on an actual sim trainer at the Truck World show in Toronto. I didn't try it because I didn't want to look bad. It seems to be a heck of a lot harder than a real truck. Maybe with some practice time, who knows?
-
The sim isnt exactly like a truck. You have no "feel" for whats goin on. I passed my sim test on the first try w/o any get out n looks. Its not that hard, but it takes some practice, which theyre supposed to give you.
-
"Feel" that's exactly the word. I stood behind the guy on the SIM and it was like watching TV. Not really there. I guess they can be a decent training tool; but nothing beats experience.
-
They do help newbies some, but the upgrade test.... Not sure bout that. It can be fun to just drive through lol

I know i want one for the house

I want to see how many things you can actually run over lol Here bambi bambi bambi...

What ever you do when your in the Sims lab do not call it a game lol!
-
O NO!!!! Never refer to them as a game!!! They will pounce on that, and possibly throw you out.
