Finally Coded!

I like driving at night. It seems calm and the miles go quicker. My "tough time" is right when the sun comes up. I guess my brain can't figure out where the night went.

 

Day 11- 83.75 hours logged. I didn't add up the miles but I would guess 4500ish. Well on the way. The QualComm is easy, however you have to use it a lot. Trip planning is much more complex than it was back in the days of multiple log books and no accountability. I do however like the thought of sleep once in a while. The old days required me to run hard to keep up with truck pmts. and road fees, of course that meant more fuel costs as well. Now I can simply drive and someone else has to balance the books!
(edit) 4888 miles through day 12. Had to go swap trailers as the one we picked up from Mexico could not be cleaned well enough for "food grade" loads. It cost us some running around to find another trailer in Altoona Iowa, but mostly we lost a load opportunity. Now we are at a Flying-J. I got to clean the truck and sweep the trailer.
(never give the OCD guy the cleaning supplies) lol - oh well it looks great!

The miles fly by, the program makes more sense. I feel good about the whole thing.
My journey has been very different than past driving. For one thing, dry freight is so much easier than was the refer work of the 80's. I have not loaded/unloaded anything. One load I pulled the cleats from the trailer floor. Most drop and hook, you don't even have to wait to get loaded/unloaded. Some of them you don't even see people. Just grab paperwork from a box, sign out and go do the drop and hook.
Four hours is our longest wait, and many picks and drops have been 15min. or less.

 

200 hours! I can smell the barn.
Well most of the clues to come out of this in the best shape are tied to the mentor going along with the plans, well my mentor just wants to get his requirements done and collect his check. I was told to end in Phoenix, but that would require him to get another load to get home. Obviously that is more than a student is worth. Oh well, all in all it has been pain free. And!!! it's almost over.
