I was curious to know if anybody has had problems with people messing with your rig while you are parked and sleeping. Do you guys have problems like slashed tires, or cut air hoses in rest/truck stops? What kind of things have you had happen while you were sleeping? Mostly I'm curious about any malicious behavior vs a rookie smacking your bumper as he parked type of thing.

When I was OTR, which was quite sometime ago (except also for one month this year) I have not had any problems other than missing tail lights and one time my tandem pin was pulled. Oh and once I had my little bbq ripped off but that was my fault because we left it at the rear of the trailer. Thats about it as far as I can remember

Does anyone know what sort of documentation a trucking company needs before they hire you? Do they insist on seeing old W-2's and/or 1099's, or do they just place calls to past employers to see if your past dates/work history adds up correctly?

Or do certain companies ask for more than others? If so, which ones?

They want the name, address, phone number of all of your previous employers for ten years. If any of the companies you worked for are out of business they will want the W-2 to prove it existed. If you were self employed they will want 1099 information. You will have to prove out all non working time such as unemployment.

A friend of mine had this happen to his brother. He went asleep after feuling his truck. He woke up seen that both of his mirrors were moved. He looked out saw a guy stealing his feul. He didnt get of the truck but he called the cops they caught the guy. He was an owner operator.
I guess we need to fill up after we sleep:biggrin_25510:

One really important thing to have is two wallets. One with twenty dollars in it and another which is your real wallet. This has to do with safety as you were inquiring about. Firstly twenty bucks is not too much to lose and not too little for a thief to get upset about. If someone ever robs you give them the wallet with the twenty. I know this doesn't have anything to do with someone messing with your rig...it has something more important to think about...someone messing with you.

If you're running solo and everyone knows it, you are a sitting duck while sleeping. A truck parked on an off ramp at 2 am is easy pickings. Open the trailer doors and help yourself, right? Anybody driving by thinks the person about the truck is the driver, right? Some of those flatbed loads are enticing. Sabatoge can and does happen, usually a dis-gruntled ex employee.
