Been signed on for 6 weeks now and have loved every minute of it. It's all true and all worth it.
This is the way that trucking should be for everyone.

Another good thing about Landstar that I hope you guys have not had to take advantage of is the way Landstar will help you out if you break down. I have the transmission in my truck down right now and they are going to loan me the money to get it fixed and at a low interest and settlement deducted.
csmith1281, scottied67 and Jarbo Thank this. -
Right, I think they want for you to be a solid runner for at least your first 90 days and then you won't have a problem if you break down and need a loan.
The LCAPP program offers great deals on tires and trailer purchases as well as other great discounts.
I just got my 45 day review phone call and they asked me if I was happy making the money that I was, and if not how could they help me make more.
One of the greatest phone calls I've ever gotten from a Company.
Also I'm impressed on how helpful most other drivers are when I have a question.jland1962, csmith1281, Robert Moore and 2 others Thank this. -
Same thing just happened to me. I needed $6800.00 for a breakdown and they loaned it to me. Truck's in the shop as we speak.
I've been with them for 5 months now and couldn't be happier. So far my Landstar 1099 says I've pulled in $92647.21 (gross to the truck), and that's with 2 weeks down for this repair fiasco.
Word to the wise...Landstar is STRICTLY by the book on many things...they simply will not budge when it comes to company policies. If you want specifics, I got 'em, lol.jland1962, csmith1281, Kickstand-117 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Yes they are a "by the book" company but I also found out about a year ago that if you have an accident and it is not your fault they will stand behind you and not leave you hung out to dry.
As far as the money goes, I've averaged around 125000.00 every year that I've been with Landstar. I know this is a lower figure than alot of BCOs but I'm home every weekend so I can see my kids.jland1962, csmith1281, Danny710 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've heard the opposite too. I wouldn't know, I never had any experience in that when I was there.scottied67 Thanks this. -
If so, how is it? Or are they strictly O/O. Thanks!!!
-
No, Landstar is strictly owner/operator. However, there are people who own trucks that they put company drivers in...but you are working for the owner/op and not Landstar. Some agents have their own trucks leased on to Landstar too, but you work for them, not Landstar. Even so, you still have to qualify under Landstar's rules and go to their orientation.csmith1281 and scottied67 Thank this. -
You can contact Landstar and see if they can place you with an Owner that needs a driver. But like mentioned you need to qualify with Landstar and that's the key.
csmith1281 Thanks this. -
How are they with insurances and fuel surcharges? Do they have their own branch of truck insurance or do you have to find your own? Do they offer medical insurance? How is their fuel surcharge, anyone know what its at right now? And do they have a reefer division, all the Landstar trucks I've seen so far were dry vans. Right now I'm a company driver hauling reefers for Werner. Been sitting on my ### since 18:00 yesterday waiting for a load.
