I need to know what I have so I can start a plan to fix this.

I have a 97 pete with 3406 18spd and 4.11. It has 660,000 on the truck and about 20,000 on the inframe. I will be rolling out monday at 125,000 lbs. At times as much as 147,000 lbs. This truck is a turd. My IHC COE with a 12.7 had lots more balls. This truck with 4.11 s wont pull in top gear on flat ground under 1700. so at 55mph im in 17th dropping down to 15th for every overpass i come to. Best fuel is 5mpg and she gets as low as 2.8mpg. I sucks so bad I only look for loads along I10 for the flat ground. Shame for this old low mile truck to suck so bad to drive.

MPG gains would be nice but power gains would help me not want to kill myself. I drive slow. loaded 55/62 max. dead head 65/68.

Is this a block casting? Or just one on the tag? Casting no. are thick painted over. I could find them (im sure) if i look at the paperwork from the inframe. We did it in-house. One day I pulled the water cap and found mud on it. Figured it was head gasket or liner pits. It was just a cooler. We did it anyway. Its a heavy tag axle truck and has always been treated nice. We dont run many miles with it but when we need it, we NEED it.

I know its not but what you described sounds just like a 96 frt liner I had that had a 3176b cat, it was rated at 365 HP but should have been used as a boat anchor! That was the worst pulling engine I have ever seen!

I didnt think this would go without reply. Next week I will start sending off for parts. If one person would have hit me up I would have used them. Looks like I will just use Bruce/Gary..... I'm sure two or three folks here have more. But B/G... I can get a hold of... PDI, PP, Back yard guys? I dont care. I like to read what yall post. If I could help a little guy I will. I dont have weekday time to mess with this. When I google your names I get nothing. 60 (road) power units runnin every day... no one thinks they could help with this? . Do you think you could get extra 1 mpg out of a 06-08 MB in a ftlr.. if you can I have 12 of them. Nothing? I have a hand full of 6NZs ex werner trucks Petes with super tens. 90% do the same run every day. 650- 700 miles, flat ground 4 days a week. (gettin 5.5mpg) It would be easy to see if you could get Mpg with a reflash or some sort of tune. If you can fix this one heavy pete, I would give someone a shot at one of the 6nz petes for mpg. What are yall gettin to flash a ecm? Yall rich? Is that why no one has sent me a PM with a number saying they could help with this?

So you're saying that you are too busy Monday through Friday and don't have the time to investigate your options as to how to make this truck run better on these days. But that you expect someone else to help you out with this investigation on a Saturday or a Sunday regardless of what is happening in their own lives

Maybe I as brought up differently........... I know I'm somewhat old fashioned in what I consider to be politeness and etiquette. In today's society and instant contact with anyone and everyone on the Internet or cell phone, rudeness and impatience seems to prevail.

You ask if I or anyone else tuning ECMs is getting rich. I can't speak for the others, but I can say I'm making a living, but I'm not getting rich. Could I or do I want your business? Yes, but I'm not going to put up with your impatience or rudeness to get it. I work many hours in a week. I usually will answer my phone from 8:30 in the morning to 7:30 in the evening 5 days a week. Depending on the message someone leaves me on a weekend, I may call that person back to help them out. But if you'd like to anger me.........call me three or 4 times in fifteen minutes.......call me at 10:30 at night......see how fast I'll call ya back then.......your business isn't worth the interruption you feel you have into my life.........money doesn't replace the peacefulness you have stolen from me. Now with answering my phone, building turbos, flashing ECMs, working on my own truck.......you think I am happy working 70-80 hours in a week and want to sit on this forum on a Sat or Sun to answer your question at the drop of your hat. One thing I've learned about truck drivers, owners, is because they are working 24 hours a day, they feel everybody else should be too. You're allowing the seat in that truck to suck the etiquette and politeness out of you that your Mother taught you as a child, if she didn't teach you this, what a shame. I never started posting to this forum to generate revenue........in fact I was banned from this forum shortly after joining it for getting in an argument with another member about performance upgrades. A number of other members asked the Moderators to rescind the ban

Now you ask what do you have as far as the engine is concerned. You have either a CAT 3406E Model with a serial number that should start with 5EK or 6TS rated at 475 Hp at 2100 RPM. In your copy of the tag you also have a max power rating of 490 Hp this will be at 1800 RPM, but this will also depend on the Rating Number programmed in the Configuration File. This file could also depending on the rating number in the Configuration File be either a 1650 ft-lb of torque at 1200 RPM or a 1750 ft-lb of torque at 1200 RPM.

Now do you want 750 Hp from it? I can do it if it is built with the proper parts.

But so can Bruce at PP for more $$$$$$ than I'll charge....now what do you say about that?

So can Jerry, Shaun, Brady, Will, and a few others at PDI......would you like their number? Heck I can give you their cell numbers, if you'll think that will speed up your pursuit........want the owner's cell number too?

Now act like a gentleman, otherwise I don't exist, I'm a figment of the forum's imagination

My 3406c in my LTL is also exactly as you described. Unless i got that ##### to the floor, it doesnt like to roll at all, even empty. my light weight is 45k and its a dog on small hills even though i turned up the pump. it made it more responsive be didnt do much for torque in the hills.

I didnt call you 4 or 5 times. I never called you. I have no idea who you are. Rude? Could be.... Was not going for that.... I have heavy wreckers. I have all my life. My phone rings 24/7 365. I even towed a car hauler on chrismas night when my whole fam was at my house. hours? I have three cell phones. I use spare time for anything like this. Im sorry you got your feelings hurt, but that post was not about any one person. I was putting a feeler out, and I got one. It wasnt you, but could have been. Worst part about this, I was just telling someone about you yesterday. I told him "I think this guy really knows his stuff, I have know idea who he is or location". What set you off, did i use your name?
