Had my fuel stolen in Barstow, CA one night. Never heard a thing. Two ears welded alongside the cap and the locking receiver pins. Problem solved for 27 dollars.

I have them in my tanks but it didnt stop the thief few years ago on I-95 in NJ at service plaza. I wake up in the morning and see that little cover and 5 screws laying on the ground. He inserted the hose in that hole on the top on tank and when you take cover off its pretty good size hole... stole around 80 gal. I need to find some special screws with special tool, like the ones they have for rims for 4-wheelers.

Idea for a fuel tank alarm:
Pressure switch, 2 way air solenoid and air regulator installed on tank vent lines. When armed, the solenoid allows air from the regulator to pressurize the system to around 0.5 psi, closing the pressure switch. If a cap is removed, the air is vented and the alarm sounds (and / or the exploding dye pack is activated). -
The only locking cap that is virtually un defeat-able is from Robond.
Yea, they are SPENDY but if your an O/O - its a one time price to pay to make the thief
wander to the next rig.

They have weather tight seals (most of the cheap gas cap locks freeze in the winter)
and the Robond spin 'free' when locked. Chisel or wrench won't do it.
According to the manufacturer they must be drilled out. They are made
in Canada.
All of my tank drains are welded closed....but...
Nothing will stop someone from drilling a hole in my tank.
When you do what you can and something still happens, then

In the Uk we have hearded off thieves having an airjack with steel tip.
(the jack is sitting in a big bowl connected to a big pump)
Slide under the fueltank, punch the hole..........3 to 5 min later they are gone.
That's we sometimes see aluminium tanks that have a thick aluminium plate under the tanks. -
That was my next thought. Beef up the tanks somewhat..
-
If they want it bad enough they will get it , heck they STEAL it out of LOCOMOTIVES in the railyards with security all over the place.
-
Indeed. All we can do is slow them down or make them consider someone else's rig that didnt bother to secure it.
If it isnt nailed down or locked down - someone usually tries to steal it.
Like the guy that lost his new LED lights in the tail end of the trailer.
How annoying.... -
We just had a couple of our trucks get hit in the Petro up the street from our terminal. Now we aren't allowed to fuel until we are dispatched to leave and won't be spending the night there.
I wonder who's stealing the fuel. I've heard company drivers trying to sell some, but can't figure out who's stealing it. -
The "I WILL PULL ANYTHING for a $1.00 / MILE " crowd comes to mind.
JohnBoy and Mommas_money_maker Thank this.
