They had 22 hours to find me a load and when they did, I had 15-minutes to go 130 miles. That was on Friday, now I have to sit here until 0700 Monday morning.

Its the work flow combined with the "Do Not" support shift.

My DBL does a fairly good job. But if she fails to plan my weekend. I'm screwed literally.

I was given 2 loads at noon yesterday. There's enough time for a reset. BUT the appointments have been set to allow for only a 30 hour break. If I drive straight through.

Which really sucks when you think about it.

Hi Newbie 2012, I'm a newbie too. I've been looking for someone to team up with also. I wish you were in Northern Colorado. Maybe you could consider a move?! We left So. Ca. 3-1/2 years ago and have never looked back. I'd be very interested in talking with you about teaming if you were going to relocate anyway. I've got three kids between 7-12 and a wife at home, and I'm not a smoker, drinker, and have never done drugs (what do ya do?-Adam Ant-Goody Two Shoes '82). I'd like to get home every weekend and during the week also if I could. The only way I see that happening is if you get on a dedicated route. There is a possibility (if you and your co-driver have similar goals) to get onto a dedicated route. I figure that'll be my "goal", and I'll start where I have to.

Anyway, the starting pay is split, but that's for ALL miles put on the truck. That means that your earning potential is usually more than solo drivers (between 5-10K/yr.) if you do the math. When you consider they like to keep teams driving as much as possible, and mostly drop and hook, you can count on maximizing that time, IF you have a good dispatch team. Visit this web-page from SNI (http://www.schneiderjobs.com/CompanyDrivers/DrivingOpportunities/Team/index.htm). You'll see they are actually offering 7K sign-on bonus right now if you come to them as college graduates and a team, until the end of June. They also state starting pay at 34 cents per mile (not sure if this includes bonuses) and up to 49 cents after the first six months. That's pretty good for the first year.

    Hey Arch4Whlz,

We have been considering moving out of state but not to CO we are talking about TX in a year or so. Where in CO do you live? I dont blame you for getting out of SoCal it is way too expensive and that is the main reason we are looking to move out of state. I agree a dedicated run is definitely my goal but as a rookie I would not be surpirsed if we would have to start off running OTR for at least six months. So the starting pay is split? I was told by a recruiter that it would be .30 per mile not including bonuses so that would mean .15 per mile on all miles ran. That bonus they are offering is awesome unfortunately I will not make the June cut off I dont plan on attending school until mid June so if all goes well I am looking at graduating mid July.

Newbie 2012, the way to think about pay is this:

    5500-6000 miles x .34/mile = $1870-2040 per week

That would be $935-1020 for each driver per week

multiply that times say 50 weeks a year, and your gross take home gets to ~$50K

That's also not including the possible increases in mileage pay you get if you keep your nose clean during that first year. Granted this doesn't start until your in your own truck. Before that with a trainer, the pay is much less, so you can't count the training period in the calculations for annual pay.

If you calculated it based on what your saying at .15 per mile (or .17 based on the webpage I posted) which is a true "split", you would have to include ALL miles that you and your co-driver have driven. I think the recruiter told you .30 because if you team with a more experienced driver, he may be payed at a different rate than you. Not calling the recruiter a liar or anything, he's just stating it differently. The net result should be similar to what I'm posting. I think in reality the total miles gets split between the drivers, and that gets multiplied by the individual driver's pay rate...which would be the .30 or .34 per mile we are discussing. I could be wrong on that, but that seems the most equitable way to calculate it in my thoughts. Hope I'm not confusing you! :biggrin_25523:

That is pretty fair pay for the first year out IMHO, at least based on research I've done on this website and others.

Texas is a good state, I like everything about it...minus the heat and humidity...ugh! After living in CO for over 3 yrs. even going back to CA feels humid!!! LOL The dry weather makes the temp extremes much more tolerable here. I'm just south of Loveland wich is about 40 min. north of Denver. Really nice here and nice clean air you can't see! If you're on the east side of I-25 here, you can get a starter 3 bed 2 bath home for around 160-175 (around 10-20 years old). The cool thing about most homes here is the Basement! Basically doubles your square footage if you have a single story home. IE-1500 S.F. home has roughly 3000 S.F. of floor space with the basement. Coming from CA, where there is no such thing most of the time, it's pretty nice.

Arch ya can't factor best case scenario for 50 weeks LOL

But the dedicated teams make some good money. Well within that amount.

    Some with weekends home :)
