I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that he was spending the week up in Camp Ripley going to more of that wonderful training the MSP sends 200 troopers to in their individual cars from the same places they can't even car pool in.

When we went to "SPOT" (snow plow operator training), MSP had a class going on. They had over 200 troopers show up and each were driving their own car to the training. Every day everyone of them would drive across post and park to go sit in a classroom for 8 hours.

    Not one trooper car pooled.

There isn't a cop on the planet who is going to write a ticket for slowing down too much through a construction zone...especially if there are workers present.

The workers even appreciate the slower traffic.

If anything comes from your phone call, it would be a charge for Disorderly Conduct (misuse of the 911 system) which here in Illinois is a class 4 felony...not to mention a violation of of the ban on cell phones in work zones. Besides, the "minimum speed" laws generally contain an exemption for "safe operation or in compliance with law"...as in while driving through a work zone.

    ...so good luck with that.:biggrin_25522:

I have been a highway worker. I stood on I94/252/I694 interchange last January replacing an open guard rail while traffic was driving by.

As much as I appreciated people slowing down to a "crawl" as they drove by us. I was pissed as hell.

The traffic would pass by and then build up. 1/10 mile BEFORE the construction zone, the other drivers would #### near have an accident because BEFORE the work zone construction even began, the traffic was backed up and they had no warning or reason as to why.

So that idiot that thought he was doing us workers a favor was actually directly causing accidents from his impeding traffic.

In the 8 hours it took for us to fix that guard rail (They took out 150 feet of railing, completely opening it up at the bridge as well as 15 posts.) There were 4 additional accidents because idiots felt they had to slow down too much going past us.

MSP finally parked 4 cars there to help control traffic. #People were being that stupid.

    PERSONAL first hand experience.

I'm not too concerned about what happens a mile behind me. I don't care to have to sit on the side of the road filling out insurance and crash reports or dealing with police after some jackwagon eats the rear of my trailer. By giving myself more room in front of me, it allows me to see farther and react slower...giving the idiot behind me the ability to keep from hitting me. It's called driving defensively. If everyone did what they were supposed to do, well first off you wouldn't be riding my bumper. So, before you start calling 911 to make BS complaints about what anyone else is doing, perhaps you should take a long hard look at your own actions:biggrin_25525:.

I am not the jack wagon that follows 20 feet off the bumper of someone else. I have 1/4 mile in front of me. I am also matching the speed of the group of cars in front of me as well. NOT slowing down and impeding traffic.

Biggest problem for new CMV drivers is speeding and HOS violations. With that in mind you need to get a jump start toward the rest of your career if it what you want.
Most reputable companies rely on guidelines set forth by their insurance provider. Hence drivers with HOS and speed violations are a bad risk, now you are faced with a wall. There some ways around this through alternate paths, continued education in the form of a commercial driver safety course or driver awareness classes paid for by you. Statement to the school and or Tennessee DMV is you wish to become more informed and safety conscious so when you are able to return to your desired occupation you will be a better driver. This part is known as groveling (eating crow), sometimes with profound grace from DMV and insurance companies.
Next step is finding a driving job that does not harm your track record anymore or at least until at some date in your future if this hardship is forgotten. I suggested this route to a friend 20 some years ago including the next step and he made a career of it. Slept in his bed every day, watched his girls grow up and was there for them, never delt with CMV violations again. He took to becoming one of the best yard hostlers at a grocery store warehouse and retired with a pension. Rail Yards and off hwy operations can be good paying propositions also, some long hrs &u'll hard work but you're better for it. Do stay away from the guy that looks the other way, cause he will expect you to in regards to HOS and speeding. Best of searching.

And that makes it ok.Truck drivers constantly break the speed limit. There is no excuse for it other than unprofessionalism.Im constantly amazed at drivers that speed through construction zones.I had a driver the other day that was much slower than my truck that would pass me in the construction zones because I would do the posted, and then I would pass him when the limit would change. All I could do was shake my head.I dont think a lot of these drivers know how a construction zone speeding ticket is going to affect their CSA and their carreers. You do now.Do you think if you get another shot you will be speeding through a construction zone.
