Biker Dave...not sure why you couldn't find work at a higher wage there. I was hired by a company in Victoria at $17.50 to start with benefits and a raise after 90 days. I'm a rookie out of school with zero experience and will start by driving a vac truck (what I expected) but hope to make the move to crude in time when I have enough experience. I'm back in Florida now after only spending three days in Victoria & Corpus Christy. I did make contact with the companies I zeroed in on prior to going to Texas (faxed resume and talked with anyone I thought could move the hiring prospect/process along) so I did do some prep work prior to going. I start working in 8 days. I think people are right when they say you have to go there and present yourself- it does show how serious one is about getting a job. Still find it baffling as to starting wage- lowest quoted to me was $16.50 an hour when interviewing. I'm not sure why the wages quoted to you were lower??? Congrats on the tanker job in FL. Myself, I hope to be back in FL in a couple of years and if I choose to stay in trucking maybe work out of the West Palm Beach port area driving a tanker...at least I'd be close to home. But for now it's Texas for experience and lots of hours- at least that's what they tell me.

Congrats on the job! I guess I just had bad timing. I was surprised not to get something decent. Oh well we will see after 3-6 months or so

I have no exp. either with tankers but about 4 years driving, and all my endorsements. Want to try my hand at Texas and see what the good Lord has. Heard is booming down there. Wish me luck
