" depending on the town/city," I was hoping for somewhere close to San Antonio or Austin. What are the prospects up there in the middle?

The way the electronic logs track driving and On Duty Not Driving, and oil field HOS give you an extra hour to drive. You can put in a 14 hour day without being in violation.wowo6057 Thanks this.

It's 15 and 12 in Texas. And you can log off duty in certain situations while your still being paid but I forgot what they are. Depending on what area your in and what your hauling you may never touch a log book. I've done many 18hr days a few 24 hr shifts and one or two 36hr shifts. Seems like most hazmat stuff like crude and fuel will run legal but with water and sand it's just not always possible. I see alot of drivers on this forum talk about how they would quit before they would run illegal and while I respect that attitude I warn the guys that feel that way to stay away from the oilfield altogether. When your hauling a load of fresh water to a rig that's lost circulation and is costing tens of thousands of dollars an hour and not drilling cause their waiting on their water you are gonna be the only person that cares about your log book or your license.

I can do what I need to do, aint 12 anymore. Don't mind driving if they can keep me driving. I have all my endorsements so we'll see what happens, water and sand are as good as oil to me. Thanks for the heads up.

i thought hauling crude was where the money was at. what part of your situation there has you considering a move? i am on my way right now to san antonio to start looking for a crude hauling job. i have at least two weeks to spend looking. i dont know what fuel haulers in the oilpatch make. but i do know there are plenty of cheap pay fuel haulers in many different parts of the south. i worked for one in florida.

I drive a kill truck, and we legally log off duty hours while on location all the time. Last Friday I drove to location, spoke with the company man who told me to sit tight and "take a nap" because he wasn't sure if they'd need me or not. I arrived at 10 AM and logged off duty until 5:00 PM when he told me to go home. I only showed 5 hours on duty that day, but I got paid for 12. And it was all done legally. I've also logged off duty time while waiting 2 hours at a drilling rig to unload water because there were 4 or 5 trucks in front of me. It's all legal.

I was originally told I would make 90k per year on this job. I'm on track for 60k. I do make anywhere from $240 to $290 a day. There are circumstances that affect how much I can get done in one day. You need to make $360 per day to hit the 90k mark. I'vs only done that once in 7 months.
Housing is in short supply. Available rentals go fast. Like one or two days after advertised in the paper. A 2 bedroom house will rent for $1200 and even more. And that is for an average bungalow. A nice place will run between $2500 and $3000. It's ludicrous!!! I don't want to rent an apt. Consequently I have been living in a Motel for the last year and paying $1100 per month. I hope S. Texas does not have this problem.
The company I work for has had turn over in upper management and I'm not sure I like the new policies or the direction the company might be taking.pathfinder1361 and Big Duker Thank this.
