I also noticed that the pre-plan and load assignment mileage are different also. Are you paid by pre-plan mileage or load assignment mileage? Hopefully load assignment miles because they always seem to be the most.

It is the load assignment miles. I always write mine down on the little notebooks they give us and then check it against my paystub and the online pay report and I haven't had them short me yet.
I did get hosed last week on a detention because I didn't write down the times on the BOL. Put it on the trip sheet though, so I thought it was kinda bogus. Next time I will write it on everything!

I will be going to school in about 3 months and roehl is a company I'm considering I've heard that they only get you about 2200 to 2400 miles a week is there any truth to this because I want at least 2800 miles a week thanks:biggrin_2556:

Hey redwolf just some FYI regarding detention time. To be paid for it times must be on bills and trip sheet, Must send detention time message on qual comm, call disp after one hour and it must be logged showing 15mins on bottem line at arrival and 15 upon leaving and logs must be scanned with that trip sheet. Miss any steps no $. All this stuff is in the reference guide. I recomend to all my students to keep it handy to be sure nothing is missed. All our extra pay comes with these kind of rules CAnada NY shorthaul exrastops etc.

Caz 2400 a week is not unusaul for a new guy. 2800 can happen but many things have to go your way to get it week in and out. Go in with your eyes open then wait to be pleasantly surprised.

:biggrin_2558:Hey MO Family Man. Thanks for the posts here and on other threads. Roehl is one of the companies I'm looking at seriously. I'm preping for my first hard year now, by getting debts out of the way, saving some bucks, buying my gear and getting ready to go to school. I will attend a school here in Louisiana in about 5 or 6 months. I'm guessing that would solve the problem of being tied to a company for attending their school, whether or not that would be the right decision. They advised they have placed several students at Roehl and have them listed on the school website. ...........................................................
I was wondering if living in Louisiana will present any difficulties. I see a few Roehl trucks pass through here. I understand home time may not come around as often as I'd like, but I don't mind being out a few weeks at a time. I guess personally, the only thing I dread is, I hear you guys do alot of NorthEast and Canada, but I can handle it. I'm also concerned that I hear drivers frequently unload / load. Not my bag regardless of pay. I'd also like to know about APU's on the trucks. I can't imagine trying to sleep in 90 degree heat down here with no A/C. Those are just some of the minor concerns.
I can handle alot of things with people and I understand that the first year can be the toughest. I'm prepared to do that I believe, and I don't live in fantasy land or expect a vacation. Can you address any of these concerns; you're the first Roehl Trainer I've talked with.

I just had a guy from hammond la in my truck. When your home time is coming they have plenty of frieght avail. to get you down there. I go to the new orleans area often enough. Depending on where you are at it shouldn't be to hard. Just look east and west on what ever highway you're near. The cities there would be points for loads to be from or to. Example if you're near I20 a load from dallas to atlanta will get you home.
As for unloading frieght I don't/won't do it. You ordered it it's your problem. I am more than happy to hire a lumper(not on my dime though) if one isn't available that's you're(THeir problem). I have been there a while though so I can get away with showing my ### on occaison. I can't remember the last time I even was faced with that problem. Hell some shippers are printing on the bills that the driver will not unload or assist.
Finally the northeast...it sucks. I hate being there and lately it seems like when I end up there I can't get out. It's like the Death Star tractor beam..(Chewie lock in aux. power). For a while I was leaving MO going to the Northeast and staying there for 2-3 weeks doing what seemed to me to be short regional runs. I didn't get it we have a NE regional fleet what the hell are they doing? Then I met one in Kansas City and one in Atlanta and so on. You will go there sometimes just gotta make the best of it. I like to play a game up there where I see someone with a goatee and I have to guess if they are male or female. Trust me its harder than you think.
Canada isn't so bad the border crossing always seems quick to me but I might just be lucky. The people are usually kind but I liked it better when their money was worthless. Hope that helps see ya soon.

Newbie din't realize I missed the apu question. Keep dreaming, Some of our owner ops have them but unless you would be willing to do something that's illegal in Utah you won't get one on a company ride. For winter time we have bunk heaters, picture the hair dryer from hell mounted ankle high. It has two settings off and flambe'. You can hang a side off beef between the seats at nite and have 400lbs off beef jerky by dawn. In the summer we can idle the trucks. The amount of time allowed without losing bonus money varies by month. I have never gone over it. You won't normally stay down there all month but will move north and south. Nights spent up north can get lived with without a/c. I also use the idleaire sevice at some truck stops if its reaaly hot. It runs two bucks an hr on my dime. With diesel at three a gal I can't believe the company doesn't pay for it but alas they don't.

His Name is Cowboy and this is his house. He just lets' me live here. :biggrin_2559: The photo of him is how he sleeps most of the time. He likes to be on his back when he hops in bed. Thanks alot for the answers. I'm learning. Once I hit school, I'll start applying to my "first Choice" companies and see what happens. Catch you later.
