Just wondering here guys i have a 29ltd chrome with turbo echo super tune and i get great distance, the questions I have is what kind of wattage antenna should i run? And would the rfx 75 be worth putting on? i have 45 watts now and 7watt dead key and people ask if i have a linear and not expecting a cobra i have a wilson 5000 watt antenna i think the radio should handle it? Thanks for the input

I personally had really good performance out of my Wilson 5000. I had it behind a 29 classic that swings about 30 watts running into an old messenger 4 pill box. Best setup I ever ran. I don't know too much about the rf75 but imo I'd rather run an external box instead of hanging one of those things off the back of my radio. I guess I'm just old school.

Over the years I've had connex and galaxys personally wasn't impressed. Always came back to the 29 with and the box.

:biggrin_25513: Here we go ..... I've got to get this off my chest.

super tune..... it is either tuned or not ...... do you pay more to have it done right?

i have 45 watts now and 7watt dead key ...... I remember controlled carrer was the rage back in the 60's when AM was almost dead and they still wanted to put AM in the new fangled SSB/CW radios.
We were so happy to see it DIE ... and then it rises from the dead and is back on CB radios .... GASP .....

So you swing 1.5 "S" units and when you get near the noise it sounds like crap unlike the old high level modulated radios of AM's hay days.

Don't take me wrong a good AM station DONE RIGHT sounds great just lissen on 75 and 40 meters to the guys with the big radios many 70 years old ..

ANTENNAS .... A 5,000 watt antenna dosn't care what you run into it unless you go OVER 5,000 watts .... Heck except for 2 meters I run only 80 watts into a 500 watt antenna .....

    Lightsandchrome.....

I WANT your radio to sound good you are spending good money on it ....
There are too many people willing to take your money for a super tune or even a 5,000 watt antenna which is rated at 1100 TIMES what you can legaly run ....

Good techs willing to do things right are getting hard to find ....

CB and aircraft are the ONLY services still using AM makes you wonder why ....

    Bruce
    First licensed in 1963 ....

    My last AM station ....

My thoughts as well, another one that fell for the "supertune sales pitch",
