Jonben,
Did you get a job yet? And have you looked into bottom or end dump?
I have 20+ years driving and over 10 as a O/O and am considering that. Don't know the constuction cycle is down there, but so far 5 different companies say that have year round work. I know the economy is better there than here in Oregon, and I'm tired of keeping an A Train in tires. (that's a 40' lead with a 24' pup, 8 axles for you newbs).
I would go into the oil fields, but I might be a little broken up for that. (motorcycles and rodeo will do that).
Good Luck -
i see plenty of belly dumps running in the areas around san antonio. lots of truck activity. sand cans, belly dumps, crude tankers, water vacs.

I had an interview with Gazelle Transportation at their San Antonio yard to haul crude oil yesterday. I was told they average $1200-$1400. Starting pay is 25% of load, they use to start drivers at 27%. They pay for your health insurance and you pay for your families. They don't offer vacation time but, after a year you can take a week or two off with no pay. No sick pay. Idk about holiday pay. You rotate day and nights with the other driver. Dispatch is located in California. Safety bonus every quarter $500-$700. Yearly bonus percentage of your yearly wage. $500-$1500?. Blueknight Energy in Victoria called me to for a quick phone interview. I'll drive to Victoria next week for a in person interview.

Good luck, Nick.

I spoke to a sandhauler at a truckstop in Port Lavaca just south of Victoria. He told me the sand hauling is booming. Bad thing about that job is you go out on site and stay out for sometimes 2 days waiting to unload. He said the pay is excellent though!
Also saw where Pioneer is having some great success fracking with white sand. Don't know much about the sand side of things but I can confirm it is still going strong in this area.pathfinder1361 Thanks this. -
I asked my supervisor last week if Blueknight had any yards down in the Eagle Ford and he said the company has plans to go down there. He did not know when exactly. I checked the website and sure enough they want to hire 6 people. I want to bale on Midland because of the housing dilemma. This could be an easy solution to my problem.
Blueknight will pay you Sick time and Vacation time at $22.00 per yr. And it sounds like they have a better Health plan then Gazelle . I'm going to look into this.

There equipment is new. I was told they are planning to shutdown the yard in charlotte, tx and work out of san antonio in the future. They just need to get the pay & benefits right.
