I was able to stop in Santa Barbara to see family for a couple hours a few years back . That's one thing I would have never been able to do otherwise.
DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -
I have abused the autos more ways than one can think. I use to be in the boat of "I won't drive one." Now it is what ever you have, I'll drive. You just have to know the shift points of them to understand what you can and cannot do. The worst test of one I heard about was a truck with an auto pulling 265,000 lbs at 55 mph. The Eaton Ultra Shift Plus is a nice trans. If you haven't driven a truck with one in it you need to. It will change you mind if you don't like autos.
DrtyDiesel and Scania man Thank this. -
I get the feeling that I'm being solicited in an effort to convince me to like auto shifts...
I feel like a ##### in church

Ahh you may be right! But you can only like em if they work properly!DrtyDiesel Thanks this.

Still in the stone age here, one day maybe ....

Any trip in my car involves shifting gears. I have NEVER owned any vehicle with an automatic. Even my lawn tractor has a manual gearbox.
...and the Mack is the only vehicle I own with anti-lock brakes, too.
I'm the opposite. I like those narrow little 2 lane country roads that wind their way over hills and through valleys. 10' lane widths and no shoulders....single lane bridges....and the endless variety of small towns you find along the way, each one with it's own unique character....restaurants, shops, etc...towns so far off the beaten path Walmart hasn't found 'em yet.
That's the kind of truckin' I like to do.
2bit Thanks this. -
How about where I come from? Single lane roads haulin cat 365's , bridges that crack and bang when ya drive over them, underneath bridges that have an indecated height but check if the roads been surfaced recently, it may be a different height now ! Dips hollows, bog roads that sink under the weight of your wheels so you can't stop no matter what! Welcome to trucking Ireland!! Oh yeah , every self respecting owner driver has a massive v8 Scania and usually don't care about speed limits or safety for that matter! Now that's truckin!
