I once asked others that same question before I started. I have been a programmer for the past 12 years and very successful. I could still do it now but I am tired of the stress and staring at a wall. I love trucking but I do notice a lot of good looking women who I encounter seem very interested in me until I mention that I am a truck driver they then find a reason to end the conversation. I am sure not all women are that way, but I rather keep trucking than dealing with them. To be honest I think the industry has changed. Even my trucking instructor told me how nasty everyone is and such, but when I visit truck stops I see a lot of truckers acting professional and clean.
I am sure there are some out there but I was expecting truck stops to be filled with weirdos acting retarded and leaving piss bottles everywhere but it is not like that in the places I have been to so far. I am proud to be a trucker this has been an amazing experience. My only major gripe is that I didn't realize my company only goes to the same few states even though they claim to be OTR. I doubt I will ever see any state out west which is one of the main reasons I wanted to be a trucker since I never been out west but have lived/visited just about every other state. With the money I am making I can just take a vacation out there when I get the chance.Last edited: May 10, 2012
Jarhed1964 and tinytim Thank this. -
As long as you're making more money than they are, it shouldn't matter. I've known some very wealthy people who made their millions in unconventional ways, yet, they were accepted by their more conventional peers. I wouldn't be surprised to see the owner of CR England or Swift, hanging with Donald Trump or Warren Buffet.

No I'm not embarrassed. A near and dear family member tried to get me to quit. Said I was too smart, and wasting my talent. In one ear and out the other.

Ummm... in a word NO
-
Hell no I'm not embarrassed!!!
If they don't like me because if my profession then they aren't someone I want to interact with anyway. Also, if they don't like Truck Drivers tell them next time there out shopping not to buy anything that came off a truck.
If your embarrassed what you do for a living then I can't see you being in the profession for very long.SGTSmokdU and Raiderfanatic Thank this. -
I think grusco has the central issue scoped well, there are "more than one" who folded up an advanced degree and went to mowing lawns .... whatever it is causing you to be "embarrassed to be a truck driver" is better replaced with keeping attention on the job ~ you can read books or whatever and just ignore the "play dumb" as US $33,204 is not something to be embarrassed about
trashtruckin22 Thanks this.
