How long are you out with a trainer?

Last I checked it's 5-7 days on the road with a trainer with Schneider. It can be extended but they don't like doing that.

That 5-7 is intended for you to be in the driver seat the whole time with the trainer riding shotgun, but it doesn't always work that way.

    PayCheck,

Do you know if this is part of orientation? I was told orientation for a recent grad is 2 weeks.

Orientation is a total of three weeks. The first week at the OC is covering logs, checking driving skills, etc. The next week is on the road with a trainer, then back to the OC for trip planning and Qualcom classes and final testing.

    Gentleroger,

I appreciate the info any idea if SNI puts you up in a hotel for the two weeks that you are not out on the road or would have i to commute home each day?

They put you in a hotel. Some guys who live close choose to drive home each day though.

I just finished CDL school here in MN and seriously considering driving team for SNI. Got a buddy considering it but he has other directions he may choose instead. I'm looking for a team mate in Twin Cities area (south of the river preferred), non smoker, non drinker, conservative, married, two teen step-daughters,college degree, mature--this describes me. Similar preferred. Anyone looking? Send a PM if you would like to discuss. I'm looking to make some dollars while gaining great experience.

It depends, a lot of years back if you lived within 50 miles of the yard you where training at you had to commute. If you lived farther then that they woud put you up in a motel. Also it was 50 home mover miles so it's more like 60 miles, I assume it's still the same way but you should check with recent hire.

    Grusco,

Too bad your not in no. CO, otherwise I'd be intrested in talking. I've got similar scenario with 3 kids, unless an AA degree doesn't qualify as a college degree. LOL. If there's anyone out there in No. CO wanting to team up, I'd like to talk...gotta be a guy tho, sorry ladies.

Heading to Green Bay Monday for the Tuesday Orientation with Team Mate. As has been covered here the Orientation is Tuesday through Saturday then out with the Trainer for a week or so, then back to Green Bay for more class stuff. "Graduation" would be the last Friday you're in Green Bay (the end of 3 weeks). That morning a Team trainer will come in and start schooling us on all things team such as team driver scheduling, etc. We're starting at .32 cpm split, plus a $7,000 signing bonus (split) which is paid as follows: $500 at conclusion of orientation, $1,000 at 90 days, $1,000 at 6 months and the final $1,000 at 1 year. We both finished CDL school in May so Schneider is also paying us $150 a month to reimburse tuition for that.

Couple other things to mention. 1) We will get a 2012 or 2013 Cascadia as our first truck and 2) Inverters are limited to 180 watts. We also learned there are almost a dozen 12 volt plugs in the tractor so lots of outlets for cookers, tv, coolers, cpap, etc.

I will be keeping a log of this adventure as it unfolds. Don't know if I'll post it here or on a seperate blog. If I use a blog I'll post the location here for those that might have an interest. I know there are lots of students and wannabes here and sometimes another newbie's experience can be helpful. Sure has been for me as I went through the decision making process which landed me at Schneider. When I began this venture teaming was the last thing I thought I'd ever want to do. Now, at this early stage, it is by far my best choice. I'll go into detail later.

I won't be posting anything for a couple weeks probably. Just want to focus on the task at hand.
