When someone ask that question. The first thing that comes to mind, is why are other peoples opinions important?
Everybody in my little town knows I drive a truck. And they LIKE it when I come in their business and write a check....that's good.
When's the last time you thanked the guy who cleans the showers at a truck stop? Imagine how he feels when someone ask what he does.
A job is a job. The only difference is the money.

Every time I talk to my Dad on the phone he tells me how proud he is of me, he was taught by his Dad how important trucks are to this country.
I'm 50 and been out here for a little over 9 months, this is the first job in a long time that I truly enjoy. I worked in a machine shop years ago building engines and loved it too, but always had a hard time making decent money.
I miss my kids and they miss me, but I'm very proud of what I do. If someone (especially chicks!) looks down on me for what I do for a living, I couldn't give 2 turds what they think of me. I've been through way too much in my life to worry about what other people think about me.gb2nyc, chompi and Jarhed1964 Thank this. -
I'm proud to be a truck driver. I've wanted to be one my whole life. I've had the fancy sales jobs and whatnots and they are all show. An industry full of fake people...living a lie.
I made twice the money and hated my life.
Truck drivers are pretty much the real deal. I feel alive driving a truck because each day is an adventure. I usually start each day uncertain of where my day is going to end. It's kinda like a gypsy lifestyle...OTR is anyways.
I'm in new places almost daily, meeting new people, eating new foods and seeing new sights....and getting paid for it.
I AM embarrassed that YOU (op) are a truck driver though.....
Ya might want to re-think this profession. -
If you do a job that embarrasses you and you even lie about it, well, I think that says something about your character.
Not a good something, by the way.Boogers Thanks this. -
He's probably just trolling...
Nobody serious would start a thread like this.
I play along though...
I have time this morning to feed the trolls.
Sometimes you can make em do tricks !lucky07 Thanks this. -
I am kind of embarrased that I am not a truck driver, but I only have myself to blame for that...

or a freight relocation specialist.

Im not trolling. Its weird I dont have a problem telling most people when im on the road. Unfrotunately though, society has put a negative stigma (is that redundant lol) on truck drivers and the younger generation seees it as such. It could be a regional thing as well, being from southern ca, truck driving is not very hipster. Yes I shouldnt be dating girl who think that way but all girls from here think that way

Freight Re-Location Engineer.
However, if you are embarrassed. Your way too worried about what someone else thinks about you to be successful in ANYTHING. Life, Love or Work.
