Thanks for the input. I allready have unlimited, so no added expense. I don't need real fast anyway, I need it mostly for emails and minor surfing. I can do that with my phone, but a bigger screen and a real keyboard is allways better.

Unlimited usually has a 5gb limit before your speed gets throttled back to slower then dial up. If you use the internet a lot, finding wi-fi is your best option.

This is good info to know. I love my 17-inch laptop and rather use it than my phone (which is ancient and needs to be replaced) and want the fastet speed I can get, as I watch a lot of Netflix on it. I hate, hate, hate slow downloads of any kind.

Its $20/month or like $120/year at Pilot/FJ, TA/Petro... but its really slow and doesn't really matter where you park. I found that connecting to the nearby hotels or restaurants was better and free
Then a few months ago I jailbroke my iphone... and since I've been with verizon for 2 years now, I had the unlimited data for $30 plan (they don't have unlimited anymore...)
Speed is great (I watch/stream netflix a lot) and use about 12-18GB monthlyslomocopshow Thanks this. -
I'm with you DonB! I like the convenience of my phone but can't stand posting on it. I am a fast typist and like my keyboard on my laptop much better!

I have my laptop on most of the day when I'm driving, hooked up to my phone and downloading -
Verizon 4G Mifi hotspot.
Currently mounted in the 4-wheeler with external antenna - runs up to 5 devices simultaneously (iPhone, MacBook, iPad).
Excellent speed in metro areas (7-10MBS), Verizon coverage is about the best OTR (or at least it was a few years ago when I managing a band on tour). It was pretty much 3G back then, but now I get 4G in places I couldn't even make a cell call from on AT&T.
You really gotta TRY HARD to do 5GB in transfers.
Sprint has their (supposed) unlimited plan - but their 4G coverage is spotty at best, and their 3G is pretty slow.
AT&T, for supposedly the largest network in the country, actually does better with their "partners overseas" than they do here - sadly enough.
Paid coverage in truckstops isn't worth it, unless you find one empty of trucks (good luck). They're usually in out of the way places, and every shares a DSL connection at best.
I run 50MBS Comcast (business class) at home, so I'm somewhat spoiled. Usually, before road trips, I'll rent & rip (or torrent) a bunch of movies and throw it on the iPad for the road. iPad (3 - the new one) has a screen so crisp, it puts most TV's to shame. Perfect for laying in the bunk with a good set of isolating earbuds...
Rickslomocopshow and HwyPrsnr Thank this.
