here's a little more lighthearted thread...
What is your motivation? What are the spoils of your labor?
We all know life OTR is hard, so why do you do it? What keeps you going?
Family?
New car/house?
Boats/ATV?
Ex and child support? lol
Let's hear it/see it!
If it's your family, remember, this is the WORLDWIDE web, I strongly DISCOURAGE you from posting pix, regardless of how hot your wife/gf is lol, especially since the WORLD knows you're never home!
we all know what YOU drive, but what drives YOU?

I'll go first...
I have a wife and 4 kids (2 young at home) I miss them greatly, but I know how much this job has helped us, and I do have a a personal expiration date in mind...(local job FTW)
We just moved, and are going to be building a new home before year's end. (need to stay on the job until everything is done on the house for financing purposes)
And, I plan on getting everyone an ATV for Christmas, so the miles better keep coming lol
I love OTR, and I love my family, which is why I do it, but I can't stay gone from them forever! -

What drives me? A desire to not lose my house & property. This economy sucks and OTR truck driving is the only thing I could find 3 years ago that provided me with any chance of recovering after the collapse of the housing market that I was tied to as a builder.
I do not like this job, I tolerate and endure it for the sake of my wife. Being away from home so much is for the birds. I like many in management that I've gotten to know, but they go home every night and weekend, without me and you other drivers out here sacrificing, they wouldn't have a job.
I should also add that I've liked having students on my truck teaching them the ropes.
Believe me, if there was a local position near my residence that would pay near what I make now, I take it in a heartbeat. There isn't though...
So, I wait until the economy turns and something else opens up for me in my area of expertise.Last edited: May 10, 2012

I don't have much driving me. I have no kids, no car payment, cheap rent, and have only a little debt in student loans. I mainly work this job because it affords me good beer and xbox games when I go home. And the ability to afford to invest some money for retirement.

Butterbeans.......

Magic beans are better. They grow these huge beanstalks that you can climb, and when you get to the top you get to hang with this giant fellow.

Naaa I hung out with him in my younger years.
Skin flint never had anything for the munchies.
I'm sticking to butter beans
