Hello everyone,
I've recently been offered retreading services by a company based out of Fontana, CA. I've heard about the money saving incentive that comes along with retreading but is the service fully reliable? I don't want to think I'm saving money and then have a retreaded tire blowout causing loss of time and work-flow.
Are retreading companies more advanced from when they first started?
I've heard of recapping as well. Is this the same service or is it a different process than retreading?
If anyone has any experience on this topic, let me know what's up!
Thanks,
Julian

Same thing. The only caps I'd consider are Les Schwab non jointed, or Micheln Retread Technology MRT. I've run them both as well as other inferior brands.

Just my opinion but if you're not going to use casings off you're own trucks then you could be rolling the dice on quality. Nothing wrong with a good retread but if the casing is garbage then you're going to have a garbage tire regardless of how pretty the tread looks.

we get our tires from the local Goodyear guy. retreaded on site. have run them down to almost illegal, no problems so far in 3 yrs. heavy paper loads to light ones. we run GA to Minn to Ohio.
done right they should be as good as virgin tires -
Two things to be aware of with retreads.
1. They ae a bit more sensitive to heat, so you need to be sure and monitor your tire pressure.
2. Rolling resistance usually is quite a bit higher...about 40 points or so.
This translates to about 0.4 less mpg.
So if you're currently getting 7mpg, you'll get around 6.6
