Me embarrassed about it, NO! California and all their CARB crap can **** it!!! I hope they get everything they deserve there as they dont like us hard working, patriotic types with a little older truck hauling their stuff they need to live. I hope we starve them all out! I hate all the Californians that have moved to my beloved state of Washington and have driven up the prices of everything because of their Communist crap. Go back and stay in California if your "embarrassed". Sorry for my rant to the reall blue collar folks on this board. BTW, A real good WOMAN (not the teenie bopper type still in high school) will love you no matter what you do for a living and she will be proud of you too.

if you are embarresed of being a hard working person who is making a pretty decent living--generally more than a lot of college grads--you must be a bit of a loser--or have an iferiority complex---maybe mcdonalds would be more to your liking

I've said this for years. In my entire time driving, I can only think of one day I didn't want to get up and drive.

There are a lot of stigmas attached to our society.

For whatever reason, truck driving is looked down upon as bottom of the barrel.

Like they say, 'If all else fails, there is always truck driving school".

I like driving trk otherwise I would'nt be doing it.Like I said i'm not out to impress anybody but myself. For our typical stero type society trk driving is demeaning like a homeless person picking up trash along our hwys for a living But hey why care what they think you do what you like and give society the one finger salute.

Trucking has a wide array of drivers in it's spectrum; probably more so than most professions.

Commercial driving/drivers, consist of a lot more than "down on their luck, last resort so I got my CDL" kinda drivers; the ex-cons; and the overall dregs of society that so many associate with driving.

There are owner operators, who aren't just skilled, professional drivers; they are expert business men, who earn several hundred thousand a year (or more); in fact, many make million$ in their lifetime.

There are also the dang near geniuses with wrenches and diesel mechanics; these men and women are so smart, they'd excel in and type of mechanical engineering! They're just naturally gifted.

The OP needs to stop focusing on the bottom of the barrel aspect of trucking; it's only a small fraction of the profession. I've met some of the smartest, both mechanically and business oriented, as I have anywhere else.

A negative attitude won't get you anywhere; not in trucking, nor any other endeavor.

Not so much embarrassed as troubled by what others think this profession is all about. In a word, misunderstood.

I make better money than most others in this industry. I can actually support my family on my income and have never needed to ask my wife to get a job, something most blue collar types cannot do. But still, when people ask me what do for work, I feel the need to clarify to them exactly what I do, because I really don't just hang onto a steering wheel and move trailers around.
