I'm looking to start an OTR trucking career. I need to do a company sponsored CDL training deal. I'm considering signing on with PAM. Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

PAM is a decent company, not perfect, but decent. That being said, don't do company sponsored school if you can avoid it. With PAM you have to sign a 1 year contract and have to run teams for 6 months. I went to community college in Arkansas, $2500.00 for school no contract and no team requirements when I came to work for PAM, plus I got the same sign on bonus as the C-1 students. If you really must, there are a crap load of companies that are doing company sponsored school. PAM, Con-Way Schnieder, Swift just to name a few. Do some research, see who has the best combo of training, pay and contract obligations and go from there. Good luck.

Thanks. I really don't want to do team driving (except for the initial training period of like a month or two). But good to know about PAM in general.

    Thanks again.

RUN..........don't walk, RUN. You will be turfed (no loads, sitting the whole weekend some where out in the middle of Oklahoma), your miles will go up and down, you will make 50 bucks one week and 700 the next, but they will keep deducting. I have been with them a year and its time to GO. The team manager is a "richard" head and I really have just had enough of their bull. WHen you don't understand EOBR's and they should have told you five months ago you were in violation and you end up getting called to Tontitown for a drug test or something, they keep you in their roach motel for five days for something that happened a half a year ago. RUN. Start with swift, same stuff happens, but you start at 32 cents a mile with no team committments. Same health insurance which is decent, but don't sign a one year contract. Pain in the keister and all they do to new guys is run you ragged, give you late dispatches, change your loads, switch your dispatchers. They are getting a few things right. Newer trucks and new trucks. David Finley is the driver advocate adn he is your Obi Ben Kenobi at this place. They shut off our fuel cards for not answering them right away (with in three hours, but you are not allowed to test on a quallcomm while driving). So many messed up things that outweigh the good. Go to Junior college, you will get MORE training, MORE education and experience and you can start with anyone you want and leave anytime you want. There are a billion trucker jobs out there, don't limit yourself out of the gate. Many are leaving PAM right now because of their greed and trimming staff (they have cut the weekend staff three times now). Good luck.

Guessing you have the option to do Pam or USA Truck. Go with USA Truck...they let you solo. Also according to lots of people its a good company to start with. You have to hound dispatchers for loads and apparently maintenance on trucks aint great and they arent electronically updated with more modern stuff. Its reviews I found on glassdoor.com
