it's called settings, you can change how you want it to notify you.

 

to me, pcmiler was half price. gets me there twice as fast. takes me down truck roads instead of non truck roads.

it basically knows where it's going.

 

Garmin 560 or the nuvi. The Rand McNally is junk. Everyone I know who had one returned it because they are junk. Some people at the pilot even advise against you buying one. Think about that long and hard before you plop down $300 + dollars.

 

So the clerks are all knowing now? 99.9% of them could not tell you the difference between the different navigation units.

Everyone is very broad also.

So why are you so dead set against the TND? If you had a bad experience please let me know about it.

being as how the clerks are probably refunding rands on a daily basis. that's probably a sign that they know something a prospective buyer doesn't.

 

I tried many GPS. From handheld devices to laptop softwares. Multiple devices from any kind. Today there are the small GPS in the windshield with great improvements for trucks, but I found all of them(even the 7'' screen ones) too small in some critical situations when I really need to see not only the street but the surroundings also.
The best (for me) is Microsoft Street&Trips. As a software is quite embarassing coz is not too smart at all. But there is a catch. In conjunction with TruckStopPlus add-on makes it magnificent. My 17" laptop screen kick ##### when it comes to visibility in any situation. Delorme is not bad either but I found it a bit more difficult to manipulate. On Delorme I cannot add the TruckStopPlus tho which is a big disadvantage(for me).

 

Items get refunded all the time. Without knowing why it was returned it would be hard to determine if it is a user issue or TND issue.

As stated many times and in the packaging, You need to charge the TND on AC for at least 3 hours. How many drivers get it out of the box and fire it up on DC and then take off. Because the battery is not a maximum charge this can cause issues on the 7" because of the power requirements of the HD screen. The TND then locks up, freezes, or the screen goes black. Is this a TND issue? No, failure on the user to properly charge the TND. So it gets returned. The clerks do not know the reasons.

Last year when I was at the Tier 3 events I looked at returns and 99% had nothing wrong with them. One only had 500 miles on it. So the driver used it for one trip and turned it back in.

Some it is an impulse buy. Later they determine that they should have not bought it.

Some buy it and because they do not go through the settings or maybe it does not find an address they get fustrated and turn it back in.

Clerks are not trained on any of the products they sell. All they know is cash in and cash out.

So, in all fairness, we would need to actually know the reasons and have the unit in hand or someone there to test it to see if is was a user or TND issue.

well, since my gps never gets unplugged, i wouldn't know about what ever battery issue it had.

and as for user experience. i'm pretty savy when it comes to electronics.

 

I would recommend a 7" Tablet running the Android operating system. Then download PC Miler Co-Pilot into it and it has the features I love. Much faster routing, crisper graphics, better user controls and you can download other applications as well and use it for a variety of stuff i.e.: weather, traffic, audiobooks,podcasts, photos, email....ad infinitum.
I have found with the stand alone truck specific GPS's that two are better than one.
I have both the RM TND 500 and a Garmin Dezl 560 on my dash.
I usually drive by consensus...if two agree go that way
