1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I have been forewarned about dealing with a recruiter and no upfront fee's and signing on for at least 1 yr. then they take out the school fee $40 a week 6mo later . But my main concern is will the trucking co I sign up with accept the fact that I am a type 2 Diabetic but is under control taking Metformin, also taking a water pill called Hydrochlorothiazide 50mg. and yet another for enlarged prostate called
    Tamsulosin HCL 0.4MG
Is this a waste of my time and theirs ??
Or is it possible for a career in truck driving?
I have been a Plumber since 1977 and have been in business for 4yrs. then the IRS emptied my bank account so went to work for another contractor until work got slow then eventually joined the Union ,currently still a member in good standing but laid off again !! I thought about truck driving and have heard all about the leaving family for long periods of time ect. I am #250 on my list and only have 2 weeks of unenjoyment left and have to do something soon. I also was told the horror stories about team driving, the attitudes, the smells, the road rages, sharing the sleeper etc. I especially cherish the thought of seeing the country and going to places where i have never been. But I would like to try it for a year and if I don't like it I'll fall back to plumbing. Hopefully these Meds. I am on won't stand in the way ! Opinions please !

No the type 2 is going to trigger the question of "do you take injections" Metformin is a pill ? The others are no biggie. How big a boy are you ? i read a lot bout noobs needing to do sleep studies to determine Sleep Apnea, on this forum. But don't let any of this stop ya, if you want to go trucking, go right ahead

The HCTZ is going to make you want to stop and pee a lot. :)

Whatever company you're considering, have them send you a job description in writing, complete with job duties.

Take that to your doctor, and have him sign off that you can perform those duties. Bring that with you to orientation, and you should have no problems.

Your driving record will be a big factor, as will your criminal record.

Take a look at Prime, they have the best training pay that I've found, and they seem to be a company that you can stay with for the long term. They are strict on employment history, so make sure you have verifiable employment for the last 3 years, with no gaps or no long periods of unemployment.

You should seriously look at overseas employment. You could go to a good location like UAE for a year. With your skill as a plumber, you could easily make over 100 grand in a year. I know a plumber that did it and made over 150 G's in one year.

The first 80 grand is tax free. Some companies will fly you home every 3 months for 2 weeks. Think about it, sacrifice 1 year and really bank some good money. You could slave for 5 years in a truck here, for one year overseas.

What & where over seas is UAE?
Thanks! I was planning on taking an independent truck driving school then just going on the road for maybe 6-8 months to gain the miles & experiance then get a local delivery job when I'm laid off from my Plumbers Union. We have a huge list and are at times laid off for a year or longer. Thanks again for the info.

Your welcome. Just google overseas jobs, Dubai ( UAE). There are lots of good jobs in Kuwait, Saudi, Baharain, Qatar, etc. All the major contractors are over there.
