I got the Cobra 18WXSTII, I checked the SWR and it's good but no one is replying to my radio checks.

My radio shows its going out, I did make the mistake of letting my dad barrow my pickup before I got done with swr testing and he says he tried talking. Did he damage the radio?

do you have a meter that shows pep power output and modulation? that will tell you if it is xmitting. or find a friend with a radio and see if he can hear you.

Some truckers still use CB lingo but it's not as often used from what I have heard. Some who have never used a CB in their life, but just got thru watching Smokey And The Bandit for the 20th time, pick up a CB mic and start blabbering off "break for the bubblegum machines and Kojacks with Kodacks taking pictures in plain brown wrappers" as if it were 1975 all over again.

Yes it's normal...however skip comes and goes....so today you might hear PR, tomorrow you might not hear anything, the next day you might hear Mexico, the next day you might get all of the east coast. Skip is unpredictable. You might hear it only in the afternoon, you might hear it in the evening. It's all about where mother nature puts your signal and others signals.
