Hello.
Frank here. Just a 40 year old thinking about becoming a driver. I already posted before noticing the welcome wagon email. So let me apologize for being a premature poster. I will have the ask the Doc if there is a cure for that. Instead of wasting more space, here is the link: thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/questions-from-new-drivers/178225-interested-in-driving.html#post2598421
I hope to gain some useful information on here and see if this is a possible career for me. I drove a 26' Penske from CT to GA recently and really enjoyed it minus the break down and subsequent load switch onto another truck. Someone enlighten me on the Regen issues on today's diesels, as that seemed to be the issue. Brand new truck, 24 miles on it and it didn't make it an hour down the highway before the 1st break down. An hour after that it was broke down again and I overnighted waiting for a new truck. But all in all, while I was actually driving, I enjoyed it.
I am a professional poker player. Yes, I have been on TV several times. I also run an amateur league here in Georgia. I train new players and hold tournaments for them to learn and ultimately give away seats to real events. I read somewhere not to advertise so I will leave it at that. If you want to know more, just PM me. We've had drivers stop by from time to time and play. It's away for them to relax and be around some good people for the night. It's been a good career, but with the economy the way it is, the business side, my company, is really struggling as people just don't have the extra discretionary income to come and spend at the venues paying for our tournaments, thus I don't get paid much anymore. So I'm thinking about my future, getting some health benefits. It's tough living without insurance. My wife's thought about driving as well. But we'd have to figure out what to do with our pets, a 90 and 40 lb Australian Shepherd and her 5 lb Maltese, if we wanted to team up.
I look forward to seeing what knowledge I can garner from everyone on here.
All the best!
Frank
