I guess I must have been the exception...both my Cobra 25 LTD WX and my Uniden PC 68LTW did very well.

What makes you recommend the Connex?

 

Channel Jumper,
Connex and Ranger come from the same umbrella, along with super star, galaxy, general, mirage, etc.

The factory furb is also a great idea when you want a decent small radio on the cheap as xcis said.

 

Without question the Cobra 25 or 29 have stood the test of time and would be great starter radio for him. They can take a hell of a beating for years and keep on going.

 

I agree! Unless you need extra channels or just have to have echo, a Cobra 29 or 25 or their Uniden equivalent is the way to go. Even though I have all twin final export radios, I still own a great talking Cobra 25.

 

The adding of a weather receiver should have no effect on the CB part of the radio ....

 

get one of those vise grip mounts and a francis or firestix antenna at least 4 ft and good coax. That did me for years with my 510 uniden

 

post 27 at link below. also there are other threads ref. the Cascadia. What you see in this pic is what has worked best for me. I also put a 5x5 Francis on the bracket that holds up the air lines on the back of the sleeper that worked pretty good, but it is taller than the trailer and takes about 27ft or so of coax and a little time to run it. I'm staying with this. If it was my truck, I would try doing some bonding which should help matters.
