I called Schneider and ask what the price would be if I was to pay cash for my training. I was told there is no cash option available. Its a flat $4500.00 and it takes 18 months to repay. If you quit before that, well then I dont know ! I would assume it would be the balance X 18%.
I might work for them, but Im not going to be a slave for them, I will seek training else, where I can pay cash.
Ask to pay cash ?

There is only an interest fee if you do quit or fired and then take months to repay. If you quit/fired you would then be able to pay the balance right then with no interest. As long as you are with them there is no interest.TennMan Thanks this.

I'm glad there are companies that will train drivers.. as long as they do it right. I couldn't imagine driving for someone who thought they had me by the ##### because I owed them something though.
TennMan Thanks this. -
Well, who knows ? Im sure someone will tell us. But I would assume the latter would apply. Being able to pay the balance off in full with no interest, if he / she quit or got fired. But yet again, if that was true wouldnt they allow you to pay cash right up front.?TennMan Thanks this.

But if you paid cash up front then they wouldn't "own" you for how ever long .... they want that control for the repayment time
If you want to pay cash for training do a search for schools in your area .... if you have a community college by you that would be a lot cheaper than their price
TennMan Thanks this. -
I would go with a good outside school. Make sure that the big companys recognize the school and accept it. It will be cheaper than $4,500. There are 2 here locally and they are $2,500.
TennMan Thanks this. -
I personally think it's in the best interest of the new driver to go to a private school. That way you aren't tied to any one company. I just completed private school and am heading to Schneider with no strings attached. They are still paying for my tuition too, just no contract; which was important to me.TennMan Thanks this.

I was prehired for Schneiders training program but decided to go to the local sage school so I can live at home during training. Start class next week. How does Schneider do tuition riembursement? I was afraid they might give you a driving test, nit pick it and throw you in their driving school anyway if you "flunk" it thereby getting you on the hook for the 18 months anyway. Keep us posted!TennMan Thanks this.
