Hi there, I am very new to the trucking life. I was lucky, but at the same time, Unlucky to land a gig at a local soft drink company driving for them and delivering. ( Very back breaking work I must add). The pay was not so bad, for being able to be home every night to see my little ones. Well as any normal rich corperation, the company screwed me. I went and got my Class A cdl through a very well known trucking school. I was driving class A truck for this company for a while, until a guy quit that was driving class B trucks, and filling vending machines. ( Money is terrible on that side of it), I recently resigned from the company. THe money was terrible, and they expected you to do the impossible. I am currently researching local trucking companies, that do Regional and LTL. Any good advice on which company to go with, that can get me home on the weekends, or everynight for that matter? Anybody know of any companies out there that will hire local and get me home most nights, but still get a decent paycheck? I have two daughters that are still young, and I don't want to do the OTR thing, and miss out on their growing up.. :biggrin_2555:

I'm not sure if you have enough experience but Calex is in Pittston and they seem like a very good outfit. I know they have regional but I'm not sure how many local drivers they have. It can't hurt to call, I'm pretty sure on regional you could get home during the week as well, seems as though their freight runs out and back to Pittston. Good luck!

See if swift has any dedicated or a regional runs, they are big and might be able to help you, never know they might even have a local gig.

Try for YRC, ABF, UPSF, Old Dominion, Con-Way freight. All LTL and nationwide.

I know schneider national and jb hunt have dedicated runs that can get you home everyday, might work 11-13 hours a day but thats the trucking industry.

Try craigslist for jobs as well. I dont know if theres any rail yard around you but you can talk to drivers who pick up rail containers. I see it says scranton, I have a house in White Haven so see if any coal miners have trucking companies around... Theres still a crane they use and even rebuilt it recently(I know from quad trails). Too bad you arent close to Harrisburg, theres tons of trucking companies there

Calex will get you home most weekends and during the week. You can also try J.B Hunt out of there Home Depot or Lowes Dc's in Pitston as well.

Thanks for all the input, I am checking out JB and some other companies in the area. I live very close to Pittston and that seems to be a big hub for a lot of companies.

check out www.indeed.com and type in cdl and your location. You may have to sort through the OTR garbage but there are many good local jobs in that area.

TY once again. Yeah I definatly don't want to do the OTR thing, being I have two little ones at home both daughters who are both daddy's girls. One will be 3 years old in a week, and the other one is only 19 months old. Although it would be great to see the open road, I know within the first 3 days away from them, I'll be missing them so much I'd probably turn the truck around and come home. If I had to be out for 2 to 3 nights a week, I could probably deal with that, but being gone for 7 to 14 days at a time is just not for me. Hopefully something comes up soon, I've been checking everyday and putting apps in for the local dedicated jobs. Gotta find something soon, the bills are piling up...

Well today, I called JB Hunt recruiter. Everything was going great, he had me thinking I would be attending orientation next week. Then he forwarded me on the phone to a lady, who did the over the phone app. Come to find out, they wouldn't consider the month tanker experience, as " Experience" Even though I have 5 months experience driving a Class A rig............. Needless to say that put a damper on my day. Here I was thinking I'd be starting a decent paying job next week that would get me home on a daily basis and off weekends and then BAM, I hear Sorry, wish we could help you....................:biggrin_25518:
