Why ask ? Most of the time you can't be choosy . Much of the time selection of where you stop depends not on the quality of the stop but which stop allows you to get max miles for the day .
What are the tells to look for?

What, you dont like the Subway buffet??
-
If it says pilot.

I choose pilot over TA 80% of the time. Except for that really nice new TA in Northern Indiana. Wow.

I've been to really nice looking T/S's and the everything inside was lousy. I've also been to older looking T/S's and and everything inside was great. These older T/S's tend to be Mom and Pop T/S's (yeah I know they are becoming extinct). As far as the chain T/S its hit or miss on the service and food. I almost always got food posioning at the old J's in Lodi,Ca., but not at others.

Good rule of thumb...do not park within 50 miles of a major city.
