This is exactly what I was talking about when I said overly judgemental and largely ignorant. You assume you know me but you do not. I smoked a joint at a party like 5 months ago. That's like saying I shouldn't be a truck driver because I had a beer 5 months ago. Its totally ridiculous.
Pot is a non addictive largely harmless drug. There are plenty of drugs that are legal that are way more habit forming and harmful to your health than pot. Alcohol and tobacco are perfect examples. Other examples are prescription drugs such as pain killers, which kill far more people every year than pot ever will. Just because something is illegal doesn't make it the devil. Thanks for proving everything I said correct.

It may be ignorant or ridiculous but the bottom line is the industry has set a standard that ANYONE who wants to drive is suppose to meet.
OP seems to want someone to say it's OK and you'll be fine. When the truth about the subject is put forward then those answers are just silly.
There are allot of drivers who have gotten high in the past. It's not a death sentence for the job, but more and more companies are going to more sophisticated means of testing. If someone is worried about those tests then they should by all means think of a different path. -
I think the problem here is that you posted a thread that has been asked many times over.
might I suggest you do a little more research on your question(s) before posting.
Also, the way I read you question and replies. You seem to have a wealth off knowledge on drugs, so why post something that you seem to know the answer to already?
You post something in a public forum about drugs, drug use and expect NOT to get flamed, please.
I Wish you luck down the line, whatever you do. Remember to hang up your phone while driving, and give us big trucks plenty of room when were passing you. -
The only thing I will add is that I disagree with those who say pot is not an addictive drug. It may not have been 20 years ago but I've witnessed first hand between friends and family that today, that is no longer the case. In most certainly is addictive to some. -
Find a company that is lenient.
Some smaller outfits only have a pre-employment drug test,
and never any randoms....... -
As for the OP ... Judgmental and ignorant?? Some here have been to the abyss and were fortunate to return ... You? You're still delusional. If you can rationalize any mind altering substance as "harmless", then you are perfectly capable of rationalizing it's use whenever it is convienent for you.Onetruckpony, A21CAV and inkeper Thank this. -
What concerns me is the defensive answers that was given. My exhusband would do the same thing and later would bust out his bong. Now before I get a nasty response, please know that I have 4 kids. If you don't have the self control to say no while the joint is being passed then stay off the road! My kids and I depend on it!

Well I think anyone who drives on the road like us professionals is allowed to be as judgemental as we want to be...Welcome to our world! What we do for a living means everything to us and being in control of a 40 ton vehicle is a big deal...If you only had a drag off a joint 1 time in your life,so be it...but if you have a habit of smoking a joint every now and then,do us a favor and stay away...please understand the severity of this situation if someone is getting stoned and causes a wreck because they're high especially (god forbidding) you hurt someone else..Your career ends, your freedom ends and thats just the beginning....

It is in fact true that letting others pressure you shows a lack of control but I was young too and I realize that hanging out with an older brother how hard that must have been. Sorry you were treated so roughly on here man. The guys do have a point. You can never use after your a CDL holder its others lives and your own you must think about.
I will have to say AND IM NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT IT I can feel your reasoning. My brothers are both younger than me and since they look up to me ( maybe at times they shouldn't ) and i have seen my behaviour influence them.
I will offer and help that I can man if you get in a place where you feel like your going to do something you should not call me I will pm you my cell #. I will not judge you at all and I understand that you may need this job more than you realize. Once your out on the road you WILL NOT be around smokers I WOULD HOPE. I have only met two drivers that CLAIMED they smoked. Given the possible prison terms and lives at stake I bet you do some growing up and start to enjoy having a future MORE than a brief release from stress.
Now if you cannot handle stress well and think you might feel like smoking, AT ALL EVEN ONE HIT, seriously do something else for a living.
Your not a bad person, weak, uncool, unmanly, not hip, etc if you say "NA man not for me I've got drug testing next week" YOUR EMPLOYED THAT IS IT.....WHICH IS MORE THAN MANY SMOKERS CAN SAY.
Good luck man keep your nose AND LUNGS CLEAN, DRIVE SAFE GET PAID!Wilma and bigtruckin89 Thank this. -
Ain't nothing wrong with smoking a joint, society make it seems like weed is so bad, weed is not a drug, it so easy to plant the government cannot take control of it like they do alcohol that's why they won't make it legal. Becarefull messing with it corporate amarica will screw your future up if you get busted that's y I don't mess with it.
bigtruckin89, Leftnut and MustangMark83 Thank this.
