BONNEY A Houston man was killed Monday morning when his car was hit by an 18-wheeler in front of Bonney City Hall.

Charles Ihejeto, 57, was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry south on FM 521, one-half mile past CR 51, at about 7 a.m. when he pulled off the road in what authorities believe was an attempt to make a U-turn, Department of Public Safety Trooper Wil Carter said.

He pulled onto the shoulder and the 18-wheeler was going to pass by assuming he would stay on the shoulder, Carter said. He either didnt check his mirrors or look behind him and turned in front of the 18-wheeler.

The truck, a 2005 Peterbilt, was driven by a Bay City man. He was not injured.

The Toyota was pushed about 50 feet off the roadway in front of Bonney City Hall, and the truck came to rest between City Hall and the civic center, Carter said.

Ihejeto was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Sherry Kersh. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Two additional Department of Public Safety vehicles were sent to the scene, a spokeswoman said. Traffic was detoured around the accident to a side road for about 90 minutes.

Seatbelts were worn in both vehicles and alcohol was not involved, Carter said.

I hate when they say this........his body might be ok as of right now but I know his mind and heart have suffered.
My prayers to all the families involved and I pray the truck driver finds some peace.
