    hi,
am new to the owner-operator as a spouse, and I am the business brains of the company, so would like to know what type of software programs that the owner operators use to keep track of all expenditures. any ideas would be great! we own our truck, and are leasing on to a company.
    Thanks

I am leased to a carrier and not incorporated. I use Microsoft Money and it does everything I need it to do. And its free.:biggrin_255: If you don't have it there is a version you can download on the Microsoft website.

Been using microsoft money for years for my IT business.

There are more "reporting type thing" in trucking other than just a regular bookkeeping program.

IFTA fuel tax filings, and other requirements for your FMCSA audits, go beyond just the "basic generic bookkeeping" type programs, which will work well for any industry.

A lot has to do with whether or not you will use the services of an accountant. Whether you have a Corp or are going sole-prop. Most accountants use quickbooks, which has a function built-in to send an "accountants copy" TO you accountant whenever you want - so he can check and see where you're at (quarterly 941 filings, unemployment, withholding, etc.).

I'll likely make the switch to Quickbooks (for MAC of course - LOL) when I make the transition into trucking - it handles multiple bank accounts and g/l type accounts a little better than microsoft money will.
