Try your local state/county for a job. There was a job listing in my state for a highway dept worker. Snow plowing in the winter, sweeping machine operator and general labor.
Pay is fine for me, and I do know for a fact (previous interview) that the health benefits start on Sunday, and when a person is hired??
Benefits start your first day!!!
So I re-applied for this opening (again).

i'm a newby compared to you only been doing this since 2003 and I am already sick of it all.Does'nt matter where ya go,they're all the same.

I don't blame you a bit! I'm giving RV driving lessons on a part time basis now. It's pretty laid back. I used to be a trainer.
The only problem for the most part is teaching people how to back a travel trailer. Hilarious!
The motorhomes are easy. Just ride around and teach them how to swing wide to clear and keep someone from sneaking up on your right side. Basic easy no brainer stuff.
Beats the hell out of fighting aholes all day!pattyj Thanks this. -
thank you,i'll do just that. Before my choices were limited because no car.All my jobs were OTR.Now that I have a car as long as the pay is right, who needs trucking.

Actually the way it works is like this (in my state).
You work a 40 hour work week.
You DO WORK O/T, but you do the O/T work BEFORE you start your normal work day!!
So for instance, they need the people to operate the street sweeping machines on the highways.
You start at 10, 11 PM at night.
You finish by say about 7-8 AM, then you start your regular work day shift. You do the O/T first..!!!
As for snowplowing, you start when told, and go home when you are told to, so they "own you" during the winter time, which starts, (i was told) Nov 1st, and goes till April 30th.???
Pay again in my state, is actually as good as a class B job, which one NEEDS a class B license, and again, my state, all the trucks are new and have REAL automatics!!!
It was actually quite funny last AUGUST when I went for my interview/road test.
the truck had the HUGE snowplow mounted to it, and here I was, driving the highway, 90 degree temps, think I didn't get strange looks??? -
I worked for a while driving a tandem dump truck. This guy had 10 trucks running road patch for different counties in Texas. We hauled recycled asphalt out to where they were patching mostly farm to market roads. It paid good. I was on the job by 7 and off and home by 2 or 3. Home every day and off weekends.
Problem was the idiot who owned the trucks got caught cheating DOT and they cancelled his state contracts.

they better pay dam good if I have to interupt my beauty sleep woking nights, lol.Anyway I just got word a company called me last thrusday which pays 16.00 an hr.So hopefully ill have an interview this wed on my day off.Where im at now pays by the trp which averages $10.50 an hr,not nearly enough considering alot of things wrong with this company.I do have an awesum dispatcher so whether this other job or wherever I will be doing the right thing and giving a 2 weeks notice.Which will be the first time ever with any trucking company.Guess I no WE derailed this thread just a tad, lol.
-
I also drove a dump trk.My job did not pay good.I seen it as cheap labor.Yep boss was an idiot for cheating DOT.Sooner or later they always get caught.
-
Might want to check into local driving schools. I'm not getting really steady work but I make 20 bucks an hour. It's hit and miss. I don't know what your pay requirements are but it's an option. -
What is even REALLY COOLER working for the state..as a driver/laborer....??
NO MATTER how many hours you work>>??
NO LOGBOOKS WHATSOEVER..!!
So with that, we are back on the thread..!!!
