    I refused a load awhile back that paid fair, but it was dbl stacked rolled roofing. The broker asked me why I wouldn't haul it....I told her because I have some sense left. She told me that she can move those loads all day long and never has trouble. I reminded her that there are morons moving freight for $1.35 a mile too, doesn't make it right.

    To answer the OP's question, you probably didn't do anything wrong, except take that load of course.

    Sounds like the rolls weren't banded together on the skid.

    What kind of vee-boards were you using? I like metal or plastic for anything not in sacks or shingles.

    As a driver for a roofing company..

    1. I personally do not double stack vertical standing roofing rolls, I've seen it done..but i don't.
    2. Vertical rolls i use v-boards thats are thick plywood strips with old straps 360 around the whole load.
    3. The biggest thing to look for is like what "the bird" said, banding together..
    Some roofing supply companies run the metal straps, some have the one piece plastic type shrink wrap pallet covers..either way check to make sure they are intact.
    4. I now also check to make sure all the rolls are standing together straight (if possible) sometimes a pallet may be broken on a corner and already causing some to lean.

    Hope this helps!

    It also helps if the shipper puts plywood inbetween the top and bottom skids. I've seen this done in a few places.

    TJW Transport Thanks this.

    @the bird
    That makes sense, I haven't noticed it on vertical rolls but when i haul the 10 ft single ply rolls with 8 on a skid they cover them with 2 4x4 sheets of plywood and i double stack those all day long to make room for other stuff (usually ltl msc pallets)
