Some of the decision may be more financial in nature. The costs that I have seen to add the DPF to an older truck can run $8-12,000 and you still then have an older truck. If you are going to spend that kind of money, is it better to put into something newer?

the problem is not the money,i like spend the money only for a good engine without headache and troubles, only what is better a older with DPF or a newer 08+ engine with DPF this is my question,

Another option is to just avoid going where you need a DPF (only California), and forget the expenditure. Or, if you want the best engine, then get a brand new glider truck with a pre-emission engine of your choice in it. That would be the best way to spend your money if you are bound and determined to do so. But if California is a "have to" situation, then retrofitting is not the best option. I have not seen any retrofit that didn't have a host of problems associated with it. Just go with a newer model that will meet CA demands. Personally, there is no freight in or out of California to justify the cost and maintenance headaches of a new truck. I saved roughly $40,000 by buying a brand new truck with a pre-emission engine in it. It would take one heck of a lot of excellent paying freight in or out of CA to make any emission truck purchase worth it. And the ROI may never be realized.
dannythetrucker Thanks this.
