I was under the impression that if you own a reefer trailer at landstar you on get the higher rate (75%) on a reefer load, and you would only get the dry van rate (72%) on a dry load even if it's on a reefer trailer

 

Nope, you're trailer makes the same amount all the time. Believe what you want, but LS is not a reefer company like I said before. You'll see once you can really play with the load board, but don't be disappointed.

 

According to Darla in recruiting they only pay the higher percentage if it's a reefer load... Either way I don't own a trailer right now and I'm planning on hauling one of there's for awhile to I figure things out...

 

We will likely have reefer freight very soon. Rates aren't that great though.

 

Does LS even own reefer trailers? I will have to make a note to look closer at them now...

 

Not in the general trailer pool. There might be a couple out there on a dedicated account, just like there are or were a couple boat trailers, RGN's, etc that Landstar owns.

 

LS Owns 800 reefers but they are mostly on dedicated accounts.

 

Darla, in recruiting, is incorrect. I started out here, pulling reefer. Every load I pulled, dry or reefer, paid the trailer the contracted rate of 10%. LS pays the trailer, by what type of trailer it is, not what type of freight goes into the trailer.

 

LS owned a boatload of reefers, at one time. They had bought TLC, a reefer outfit, but folded them into Inway, many years ago.
