And no, I'm not referring to my hot flashes. Our 2007 Volvo 780 with over 900K+ plus miles has begun running at higher temps. On low grade the temp is running around 210, with fan coming on and off. We've recently changed the coolant, we always change the oil on time and installed the fancy smansy Fleet Air Filter. The temp increase post changing that air filter. Can't find any coolant leaks anywhere and there isn't any water in the oil.:biggrin_2556: Any ideas?

We seem to be having the same problem. We have a 2003 kw though. A couple years ago we took it to the dealership & they said there was nothing wrong with it. We have that problem on and off and when it passes 210 the warning buzzer turns on. Seems like during very hot days it warms up, we usually slow down & downshift for it to go away. Needless to say we haven't actually figured out what causes it..perhaps the weather and the age of truck?

Take into the shop and have them test the upper radiator temp versus the lower radiator temp, you may have deposits that have built up in the radiator that are affecting coolant flow. If the problem is worse on hotter days this is probably going to be the case, also check the thermostat and see if it's bad.

what I have seen over the years is a build up of small leaves and bugs and other stuff between the radiator and charge air cooler it looks kind of like a mat of some sort which along with a clogged or partially clogged radiator will cause the problem you are talking about. if you can seperate the two enough to get in there with a high pressure washer you may be able to blow that crap out of there

Would it be better to clean with high pressure air hose instead of water pressure washer? Wouldn't the water make deposits stick to itself and clog up again?

Do not use high pressure to clean the bugs and road grime out of the rad. because that can bent all of the fins that guide the air through and around the core and you will definately over heat if that happens.

    jbatmick Thanks this.

Had similar problems ,, till I had the radiator flushed and new anti-freeze put in.

Run the flush for a few hundred miles, drain and put new anti-freeze in,,,radiators do get clogged

Another thing that can cause high temps is air in the cooling system.
If the problem started just after the coolant was changed, perhaps the system was not bled properly.

A faulty thermostat could also be the problem.

had a simuilar problem yet not quite the same on a 09, tho the fan wouldn't kick on until a higher temp coolant was leaking into and burning off in regen system, which one cannot see, amongst the list of basic parts replaced, after all was said and done it appeared to be sensor(s) here. as I understand it, only a dealer has the software to trouble shoot

as mentioned, air and coolant flow are imporant, I'd use air to blow off and out what maybe clogging air flow with-in the fins
