Is there a seperate manual available for load securement or just follow the FMCSA guide lines ?

Thank you. I've hauled some stuff, but now I have to haul everything on the face of the earth. This will help tremendously.

    be careful using that book.

if you follow its directions in several places for the number of tiedowns on unblocked bundles, stacked bundles, and transverse rows of metal coils, you will be illegal. i have no idea why they got it wrong.

the law is the FMCSR, and you won't ever get a ticket for doing what it says to do.

The "Minimum" requirements are not enough.

it's not just that, it recommends less than the legal minimum specified in the FMCSR.

for example, to be legal, an unblocked bundle 5 to 10 feet long needs 2 tiedowns, legal minimum. there's a how-to illustration of that in my 2008 practical cargo securement book on page 206 explaining that you need only one, which is wrong and illegal.

then on page 208 it shows an unblocked two-layer stack of dressed lumber, and says "a bundle 5 to 10 feet long needs only 1 tiedown when it's blocked, and needs 2 tiedowns when it's not blocked."

but my 07/11 FMCSR says different on page 393.118: "bundles carried in more than one tier must be . . . secured by tiedowns over the top tier of bundles . . . with a minimum of two tiedowns for bundles longer than 5 feet." no reduction for a bulkhead, period.

they get this blocking thing wrong over and over.
