I work for a 'starter' company. I pay an acquaintance $100 a year to use their address on my license. I own a car and have a storage locker which has the furniture I didn't want to sell on craigslist when I went trucking. I tend to go out 25-30 days, and then be off for 4-5 days. In those 4-5 days I generally travel to see my friends that are scattered across the country. I stay in decent hotels most of the time, eat in nice restaurants and generally want for nothing. Last year I payed for part of my sisters wedding and my dad's funeral and still saved $25K. This year I'm planning on two weeks in Ireland and still plan to save about $25k. It can be done if you work smart, save/invest intelligently, and don't have the big expenses (ie kids).

Excellent thread, indeed! I like the OP's attitude, I have a 10 year plan myself and it only took me 3.5 years to get wife on board, now we are a team makeing money and saving plenty. Now that being said, we need to buckle down some more, we are 44 so we don't really see ourselves as having much time, if you know what I mean. Having a plan, writing down your goals (short and long term), and saving is key. To save, you need to not spend which means, make a budget and stick to it. You will do that as you get time in truck on the road and realize how much stuff costs, where to buy and not to buy and all that. I wish the OP the best and if seriouse, it will work out.

The wife and I lost our house last year and so we have nothing, well actually not quite true but close... I have two bill's that I need to pay off and than it will be a storage shed, auto ins., boat ins. and cell bill, Until the mortgage comes to haunt us, which we are saving up for when it comes. Anyway, we live in TN and we will be staying in an RV park, just bought a 40 year old, remodled RV :) We can live in the RV park year round, use that address for our DL, Auto INS, Title, and registration. Use UPS for mail service and walla... Thats the plan for when we go home in 3 more weeks. We stay out 2 months and take 4 days off. We have two vehicles, (paid for), a bass boat (paid for) and an RV (paid for). RV park will cost around $2600.00 a year. That inclused free cable tv, free wifi, electric and water. They have a pool, laundry room, bath house and store. Cant wait!! In TN you need 2 document to prove address and registration or title can be used as one and, our auto Ins. can be used as 2nd one, they really make it easy to renew your DL. Law states something like; " a domicile is a place that is permanent and person plans to return to". Something like that anyway.

I just read that in order to change your address on your DL in TN, all you have to do is goto a website and change it, which you have by law, 10 days to do this, once you move,,,uhoh..LOL Anyway, it states you are not required to change it on your DL so, we will be waiting until next year when the time comes to renew, to actually change the address on our DL. SWEET!

Yep, that's what I'm talking about! We would love to not only see our country but would also like to see the world, too. We're childfree and barring any unforeseen events (i.e. medical issues) it should be easy to put away some good money. But, we understand that we have some dues to pay first, though. We're ready for that and we are ready to get on with it. :yes2557:

There are plenty of new drivers on here who have made $40 to $45K their first year and more than that over time. My brother has been a driver for 5 years and now makes close to 70K a year with a small company here in Texas.

If you have little to no expenses, it is easy to take trips and still save a bunch. The issue with truckers being broke is when they try to raise a family of 4 on this money, it isn't going to happen. You also have the drivers who don't do research and end up with crappy companies or they want to get home every week or two weeks so they make no money.

It can be done, you just have to research, plan, and know what your goals are and work to get there.

its taken me awhile to convince my wife -- i am 54 she is 51 so i dont know how long we will be able to do it for but we should be able to save up some serious cash in the 10 yrs or so we have --- kids are grown would sell the house but the market isnt good now -- we should be able to take home time and stay with one of the kids or sleep in the truck -- we can take a day here or there on the road too -- we have family all over the country-- living out of a truck isnt for everybody -- i really dont like to be poor--- the thought of being old and poor scares me lol -- the big thing is we get along great -- can be cooped up together without a problem and live cheaper on the road -- but would still have money to do things as time permits -- if we get stuck somewhere just park it call a cab and have a little fun or just get a room and chill for awhile -- we have an address to use --- and the dm just loves it when he asks when do you need to go home and you answer -- i am home get me some miles lol --
