See the new signs on the fence about how we run legal, blah blah blah.. They're pointed right at their yard.
Here lately, nearly every load I have picked up was late and that is the load planners' faults. Not dms. Problem is, they are riding so hard on dms and they air the frustrations out on us. I was told on how they have to do daily reports for each truck that doesn't run 8 hrs a day, each that doesn't do the 5 hr min, each that idled too much, location of truck, complaint of driver, the list goes on and on. This dm said that they spend one to two hrs a day doing these reports. On top of that, they have to correct all our pn mistakes, safety mistakes and that should be safety's job and not theirs, log book errors such as too short of inspections, etc. they are just short of setting appts and driving the truck. Overnight plays role of planner, dispatch, and csr. They really need to revamp the way operations runs, that I agree with. Because of that, drivers are getting frustrated and leaving because they feel their dispatchers are incompetent when reality is, they are over burdened... They can't overburden us because DOT rules won't allow it to an extent, so they overburden them to make the profits and cut back.
I know of two dms that put their notice in. One I'm happy about and the other I'm sad because he is a good dm. I know mine is struggling because she is on the learning curve, but she is now facing the sink or swim trials. I'm trying to help her as I can by making things easier for me and watching my income closely. I do that only to make sure I get paid what I'm supposed to.
Now to where I am. Got assigned this other truck, was planned on a load, signed into pn anf heard a pop sound along with a electrical burn smell. Pn screen goes blank. I call pn support, they diagnose it and said unit was recalled for bad capacitors in display. So I take it to the shop this morning and they remove the display unit. The back of it was melted! They said good thing they changed it because it was really hot as if it was still getting power and I could have been burned down in the truck. I'm glad I brought it in! Now I'm waiting for the planners to put me on a load going to Austell,, GA or Pennington, AL. There is a Key West load that just came into the yard. I've never been there and hoping they'll give me it.

I can agree with you about the load planners and csr..They need to at least give the dm the power to change appt dates when drivers don't have hours. I'm sitting on a Kimberly-Clark load going to Wal-Mart with no hrs to get it there. Guess what weekend dispatch told me to do..Get it there anyway can't re-power load. So in other words forget about PN and deliver load..WOW!!! The company is growing daster than they expect and alot of companies LinkAmerica lost are now coming back and they don't have the drivers..

I just send a msg on pn that I will get it their as legal as I can. Your Walmart might be a drop/hook anyway. Most KC loads in are. I'm on one now that picks up in Lee and goes to Salisbury, NC that delivers tomorrow night. It's the first load since I last left the house that wasn't running late.
-
I did tell them that but come to find out csr didn't confirm the appt date so really there's no appt for load.. I hate weekend dispatching. They have no clue.. I didn't know there was a KC in Lee..

From what I've learned in the time I've been here is that most appt dates are generic times. They were put in place to get the driver to get there as fast as possible. I learned this by sitting in with my DM so much. Drivers here have the tendency to just sit around and procrastinate. If they were truly running late on a load you would know it. Dispatch would have you're phone ringing off the hook. Like I've said throughout this blog since I started it. Just communicate, run as much as you legally can and that's that. Ignore the ignorant ones and things will be fine.

I like your DM.

Should have stayed quiet. Load is now late. I blew an intake hose and ended up on the side of the highway. No boost at all. I was able to crawl to a truck stop and park safely. Road service took 5 hrs to arrive for a 10 min repair. Made it to Salisbury and got denied at customer. Food Lion DC is receiver. Now I'm waiting for a new appt to deliver the load.
Good thing is, at least I have A/C! -
I heard the same thing, but that theyre moving the dm jobs to the terminal. The guys were in tulsa, which is no good to work with us drivers. Buddy of mine does dedicated runs out of TX he says they added night coverage and better load planning for the OTR drivers he knows.

I have sat for two days here in Salisbury, NC. Appt was changed to tonight at 1900. I'm told I will be compensated two days of detention pay. I got a restart in and getting paid, so I guess I can't complain about it. All over a intake hose.
