Are you saying that you do not agree with me about picking your trainer's brain and not leaving early if you are not confident with driving on your own?

My trainer spent lots of time trip planning. Sometimes too much IMO. BUT I was prepared when I got on my own. Asking tons of questions is key. I was offered out a week early and chose to stay another week with trainer. Yes, the money isn't good, but the extra time learning is invaluable!! Don't pass up that 5th week! My first week out alone was rough too. You are tossed into your truck with no supplies, but like Blind said...use your truck stops, etc! I would buy 3 drinks. So what if they got warm, I had a drink!
Hope you feel better soon Jeff, and don't feel pressured till your sick again. Pace yourself, and it will come to you. Good luck!

Im saying its easier said than done. You have to consider that most carieers are hurting for trainers and will take just about anybody they can get. Im saying I tried many times to go over qualcomm and route/trip planning. I gave up and said I will learn it on my own. And I have.
You know theres the way it should be and then theres the way it really is.
Im not starting anything, Im just saying.

I understand what you are saying.. Like I said before, you have the experience and I am still a wannabe.. I did however print out the Indiana CDL study guide so I can study it when I am in the office with nothing to do.. lol

Crit I should of stayed another week. I asked many questions even about trip planning. Most of the trip planning was done while I was driving with him in the bed. I was just told where to stop at. I appreciate all the words encouraging and scolding nonetheless! I am more disappointed in myself then anything else. It has been a learning experience and I have learned from it. Going back to bed......please be safe everyone. See you on the road!

Speaking of trainers, can you guys please tell me how many hours the trainers are allowed to be sitting in the passenger seat? I believe as a team driver, there is a max of 2 hours? I am probably wrong, but it said something about that.. If thats the case, how can the new drivers learn that way?

Hmmm, I do know theres a set number, not quite sure off the top of my head. I'll say this tho, I was a trainer for years. What I would do is... after the first week, I would start having the trainee do everything. I mean everything. I would be there as an observer.
I even askes whats the point of running teams? How does it benifit the trainee? Some trainers run team to make easy, big money. I hot out of the truck early because I was starving, and my trainer was making big. I wasnt learning anything. I wasnt sleeping well, wait till you try to sleep in a moving truck. And lastly, alot of the guys I spoke to in release class stated either thsy ran teams, or they did all the work. For me, I would rather do all the work than teams.

Well, another day.another trip to Atlanta. Ladies and gentlemen I have decided.that I really dont like driving in the Atlanta area. Im not sure why, I just dont like it. I got detained at the shipper today for about 4 1/2 hours. Problem is, your clock doesnt stop because some dummy has you detained. I finally get the go. I only have one more hour on todays clock. I inform my fm as such. So, I figure I will.go scale the load and get a showed. I found the closest Pilot/Flying J. GPS says 31 miles. Ok cool. I should be able to drive that and have time left over. Oh no!! Not in Atlanta! It took me an hour and forty five minutes to drive 30 miles. So, once again, I have gone over my hours for the day. What are you supposed to do, park on the shoulder of the interstate? I drove it, and logged a remark as to why I was over. I dont wanna get into trouble with TMC again over hours. And if The D.O.T. man checks me, he could write me a citation. Again I ask, what are you supposed to do? Anyhow, I now have to drive almost 500 miles, by 1500 if Im gonna make my appointment.

i understand what ur saying, 30 miles away, no problem but, this is atlanta; best thing u could've done was sit there & wait it out til u can move again; cause that's what u will more than likely get told to u by a DOT officer or safety personnel

    Blind Dog Thanks this.

Yeah, probably. Problem was, the shipper didnt have parking. I needed to find somewhere anyhow. But point taken. I guess at 13 hrs, its time to shut down.
