Gasoline Tanker: Tips on how to make fast drops at stations

We do the same providing we can't flush the hose out with gas.

 

I never capped them unless I had used it last for diesel either. Nowadays I haul haz waste and have to cap all hoses period.

 

First you have to remember that we have 2 sets of down spouts, one at the trailer and one at the truck. We very seldom bring the trailer hose out but there are times we do need it. Our trucks are also 85 ' long. We don't have pumps on any of our trucks so we have no hoses that are used for pumping. Also we have ultra light hoses so a 30' hoses is not that bad especially if you roll it or feed it into the trailer tube and allow the hose to drain while you're loading it. So if you know the set up it's not insane at all but very useful. We do not handle diesel. We hire other companies to haul it for us. It's just not worth it to the company to give us a diesel load when we can do 2 gasoline loads to a diesel load. We don't cap our hoses either. They come out clean and there's no need. If we do get a diesel load and we have in the past we will always unload the diesel first then wash the hoses with gasoline. We don't have any truck stops so we do not have any loads that are just diesel.

 

. Hay GH are your racks set up to load both truck and trailer at once. Or do you load truck disconnect pull up and then load trailer. Sorry for all the questions . Your rig seems like a lot of work vs a 45 ft trailer. I realize local weight laws have a lot to do with it. Tks

 

We loaded at a community rack and had 4 lanes dedicated to us. They were set up to load both at the same time but the system never worked. We had to pull up but we still got loaded in a little under 20 minutes with the 12,450 gallons. Our terminal down in LA has the truck and trailer loading at the same time and there they can load in about 12 minutes for their smaller trucks at around 8900 gallons.

You may think those trucks are a hassle but the first time you go into a station that was built 50 years ago you'll be thankful you have our set up. Even so the trucks are 85' long I can go into a lot more places than a semi. The trailer hooked to a truck tracks a lot more closer than just a trailer. The truck pivots in 2 places. 1 at the pintle hook on back of the truck and at the turn table under the trailer. There's no fifth wheels to deal with and the draw bar is permanently mounted to the trailer. Our trailers always stay with the same power unit so the ABS system works like it should. It is truely the best set up I have ever driven.

 

If the company is pushing you to go faster than you are comfortable with you ask him how much would it cost to pump out a tank if you mixed gas and diesel. I'm learning also. Take it slow. Do it right.

 

I believe all of us with any experience at all have said just that. Get into your own pattern and drop the same way every time. Speed will come with experience but always be safe and correct.

 

Hoses on a tray (not in tubes) helps.

Quick Trip in Arizona has nice drops. I use 2 10 foot hoses and 2 vapors with a 3 hole trailer. From the time I pull in the driveway till I am pulling out is 18 to 22 minutes with 8500 of the same product.

I notice most of you in the midwest and south dont even realize what VR is. We get a $10,000 fine for not using one vapor hose for every drop hose we are using. I read a post on the first page where a guy said "why wouldnt I use vapor recovery it only takes a second to pop the cap"... LOL That isnt recovering anything, thats just keeping your trailer from sucking in.

 

Some like the trays but I didn't. I could drain a hose a lot better by unhooking from the truck and feeding the hose into the tube. I felt I was doing two steps in one. I've also seen drivers going out with half the hose hanging out of the tray. With our tubes you didn't have to worry about any part of the hose coming out. No tie straps just load into tube and secure the door.

 

The main reason I don't like the trays is because of looks, And the hoses get covered in snow in the winter.
