Just think about what you said. If I came up to you and say that your new big Plasma TV is causing promlems for my radios. How are you going to reponsed? But the rules that apply are an act of Congress that says winey Hams, or CBer's don't have to listen to your TV, or other stuff. I think that I and everyone else knows what you'd say.
recommend a CB?

It's called PART 15 without it under electronic interferince laws in many countys they would take your radio and you to jail ....
UNDER THE LAW if you mod anything you will be buying another one since you distroyed it YES PEOPLE HAVE GOT BURNED and after almost 50 years on 6 meters I have been reported to the police the sheriff the FCC the county building and zoneing inspectors numerous times ...
The guy next door has a 49Mhz cordless phone built in the late 70's when on 6 meters i eat it up .... he went so far as to try and get everyone around me to get my antennas removed by the cops .....
So next time you think of us as winey hams think of your self when they take your radios under a court order ..... be thankful we like to wine .....Last edited: May 30, 2012

LISSEN ON 10 METERS AND YOU WILL FIND MANY ILLEGAL EXPORTS ...... like on 28.085 .... -
RF rips alot of things. Even the Human body. So mike get rid of the RF send me that 2510!
-
I traded it or sold it a long time ago. Don't know why really. Had added variable power. Had the mod where the radio powered the power mic so I didn't need a battery.....let's see what else......can't remember now. I wish I had kept all the radios and guns I've ever owned!!!!

Thanks guys, again, simple, easy to install, and operate, inexpensive, but still good. CB, nothing that requires licenses.
-
NO CB REQUIRES A LICENSE .... If the radio says something like " Requires a ham radio license " it is NOT a cb ....
Cobra midland and galaxy make many good models of CB radios some under $50 .... -
Keep it simple , buy either a Cobra 29 or 25 LTD Classic (Uniden 76 or 66 is about the same quality & price) and have a good shop peak & tune it, purchase either a Astatic or Road King mike, a Wilson 2000 antenna & a good piece of coax cable, dont buy the coax from a truck stop because most of it is junk.
I have a 29 & a 25 thats been in use for about 10 years & never had a problem with it, since you live around nashville thers sevral radio shops to choose from, my local radio man has been around for at least 25 years & his dad ran the biz before him, when you cross Mt.Eagle jump off at the 135 exit & turn to the right (if your head'n east tward Chatt.) & hes located just past the truck repair shop on the right, he goes by Bird Man.
I got into the "BIG RADIO" garbage years ago & found out its a waste of money, always something out of whack or needs repaired, a Cobra or Uniden are bomb proof, super dependable & can be bought for a fair price,,,unless your wanting to get into the "BIG RADIO" junk then knock yourself out.Mad Dog 20/20 Thanks this. -
See the problem is how much range do you want and how much money can you afford to spend. If you only want to contact shippers and receivers when you are in the area plus trucks in your immediate vacinity, you don't need much and it will cost very little.
. Now what I am going to say is going to make the experts go nuts. The dirty little secret about cb radios is that because the legal limit for a cb is 4 watts, all those pretty radios in the truckstop display case have about the same power output. More money gets you more features and maybe a more prestigious name but not more power. Get whatever radio you want. It really does not make that much difference. Personally, I feel the peak and tune is just a waste of money.
. If you are running a radio that is in its stock condition the way it left the factory, coax does not make much difference either. If you are using a single antenna setup, the experts will swear by RG-8 but it is really almost a cult status thing. RG 58 will work almost as well and is cheaper. It just isn't the status thing to do. Coax does not produce a significant difference in range.
. The most important component in a single antenna setup for a stock radio is the antenna. If you can afford a Wilson 2000, Predator, K40 etc, it will be a major improvement no matter what radio you get. If money is a major limiting factor, try a 4, 41/2 or 5 foot antenna. They are fairly inexpensive.
.Well the answer to any cb radio question is buy a Cobra 29 and a Wilson antenna crowd is not going to like this. Neither is the RG 8 coax is the only coax to use crowd. Oh,well.

Really. You have some false statements in your post. Coax is very significant. RG8X has significantly less loss factor than RG58. If you think that doesn't matter, you've proven you don't know what you're talking about. It has nothing to do with status. Its about removing loss and achieving peak efficiency. All stock radios have 4 watts carrier, yes, but some are capable of higher PEP than others. Export radios, being illegal, often have significantly higher than 4 watts of carrier. Peaking and Tuning is not a waste when done by a proper shop. Aligning frequencies and getting extra pep is a good thing. It's getting these wack packs that's the waste.
You talk "range", but you lack an understanding of "gain".
