It's called government speak and it's supposed to be confusing.

It's also a bunch of busy bodies keeping themselves busy.

    Ummm...."Mirror, mirror, on the wall........

Nah....too easy....most of the time you can't get LEO to use the rear view mirror....let alone one that would show the whole thing!

The problem comes from taking one subsection out of context of the whole chapter. Which your examples show.

    § 390.3
    General applicability
(e)(3) All motor vehicle equipment and accessories required by this subchapter shall be maintained in compliance with all applicable performance and design criteria set forth in this subchapter.

And this section again only applies to required equipment and accessories. Required by this subsection. Does not apply to any equipment NOT required. Ie chicken lights.

A real chicken truck is NOT going to have a light out. Chicken haulers code of ethics clearly states that if you have 100 lights on your truck, 100 lights must be burning. A true chicken hauler would be too embarrassed to be seen with a light out.

Hard for me to look at a light when it has a led out yet alone to have a complete light not working.

Funny, for every regulation or violation story in here, there's at least 10 "anti-guvmint" people coming in here to beat someone up just because that person is a DOT cop. No wonder dieselbear got fed up with this thread. Take the "tea party/liberal/conservative/NWO conspiracy/big gov't /small govt/ anti- or pro- obama" crap to the political threads where it belongs.:biggrin_25516:

So you are ok with someone freely interpreting the law as they see fit and applying it willy nilly?

That's not what this thread was about. I agree that it's unfortunate those jackwagons drove Dieselbear off - I for one, enjoyed his posts immensely.

The LEO's job is to enforce - its the courts that determine whether law enforcement has gone beyond the limits and are "applying it willy nilly."
