Make sure your STC oil lines are not the cause of the leak---Good Luck

No problem, if you ever need the rocker gasket or rocker cover part numbers let me know, I find that when chasing a leak new gasketS just give me peace of mind.

thank you turns out my cylinder is not meant to be repaired. The guy i wnet to this morning said he wouldn't touch it since there is no lock ring or threads on the cylinder. have you ever had to replace a cylinder on your k100?

My neighbor Matt does a lot of work for Case and he told me if i couldn't find someone to rebuild it he could make some calls and see if he can find me another cylinder that's the same length. After removing the stainless covers off the engine and crawling in there with a light it turns out that it is an STC engine.

Not to the ones on my KW yet, although we are going to need one done soon, the other K100 we bought had one of it's cylinders laying in the side box when we got it.

I did have the one on my GMC rebuilt and the guy didn't seem to have any problem with it.

i think the guy i went to visit was lazy and didnt want my business. I have to go to milwaukee tomorrow to get some parts for one of the trailers and ill swing by the kw dealer to see if they can tell me of someone that might be able to help me i think they are threaded in because i couldn't find a roll pin or a lock or maybe they are welded shut.

It could come down to maybe having to try a few out from a junkyard to see if you can find a good one.

The one that came of my GMC had a screw in cap, I have never looked at the one of the K100 to see how it is.

They sell repair kits for those cylinders but there's at least a couple different styles and it's been a long time so I can't remember the details. Your VIN should get you the kit #. It wouldn't hurt to take your cylinder along.

thank you bender cylinder is in the backseat tomorrow morning when i go get some bearings and shocks for the trailer ill go ask the KW guys, with all the farmers around my area i think there's gotta be someone around that could rebuild my cylinder.

is there any benefit of the STC? After taking the cover the guy put on i saw the lines that run to the other side of the engine and I'm still not convinced on all this setup(more parts=more trouble, simple designs work better most of the time) . My dad and my uncles have driven Cummins from the 250s to the big cam 3s but nobody has ever driven a 4. If these engines are known to cause trouble i might just run it like it is and Ill buy another big cam 3 and start overhauling it slowly and swap them over around Christmas.

Some will say that the variable timing that comes with the STC is a good reason to keep it, IMO the cost to maintain it if something were to go wrong out weighs the benifits. That engine would not be that hard to put a set of normal top stop injectors in it and block all the oil ports to do away with the STC. Then you would have an engine similar to a 676cpl.

I would second the BC3, but that will require a radiatior change to go with the high flow cooling that the BC3 has versus what you have now. Also I wouldnt change anything until something stopped working with the STC, then I would start changing parts.

You could probably rebuild it yourself. We used to install kits in them and it really wasn't a big deal, I just can't recall how they come apart it's been so long.

STC engines had some issues but they were resolved with updates. They perform good when they're right. I don't really care for them but many got good service out of them with little trouble. Getting to know them takes a bit but it could work for you if you want it to.
