Coming aboard

How long after the interview will you know something? The guy that interviewed me seemed impressed with me so i'm hoping and praying that I get that call.

 

Got a call for an interview with ABF next week. Not sure if I should go with the first offer or just be patient and see things out.

 

I agree with ACH1130. Both good companies, so whoever takes you first, go for it.

 

If all things are equal, I think i'm going to YRC because it's only 5 miles away. ABF terminal is 15 to 20 miles away plus I would have to pay a toll to get there. With this being a on call position at first, the closer terminal would seem to make more sense. I'd like to hear what you guys think.

 

Well I work for Reddaway. The only thing I don't get is the pension. I guess the pay is a bit lower too. I don't know how YRC is doing but I know when I worked for Yellow back in the day it was the best company I have ever worked for. I made 1500 a week gross every week. That was working 5 days a week. We still had a good pay scale and awesome pension. That was until June 2007. Everything dried up and I was getting 1 day a month then finally laid off. I have heard the union has gotten weaker, that the drivers actually voted to take a pay and pension cut. Not cool. If the company was supposedly going to fail because people wanted to keep their pay and pension, I would say let em fail. I never would have voted yes on that on that ridiculous cut! I my experience with any company, once they take it away, they never give it back and they just keep squeezing more out of you till you have nothing left.

 

Being a new hire, how does being on call and the extra board stuff work? Also, what is the starting pay for a new hire and how long does it take to get into the union?
